I was browsing through some .325 chain for my MS 261cm and stumbled across this.
Is this a more potent or better chain for an 18-inch bar chain?
What would be the best applications for it?
I was under the impression/understanding that skip is best used on longer bars. Maybe around 30” & above but I am sure that others with more knowledge than I have will chime in.
Or maybe someone who stayed at a Holiday Inn Expess.
I have a few full skip chisel chains from those guys that I have run on my little MS250 before I got some larger saws. I ran a 16” bar and it lessened the load on the saw while keeping overall cutting speed up there.
No great practical reason for a skip chain other than running a longer bar on a smaller saw for power problems or to keep chips flowing nicer. It’s crazy how few cutters you can have on a chain and actually have it still cut decently.
a full skip chain on a small bar is pointless. the reason for the missing cutter is to make room for chips being pulled out of a long bar like 36" or bigger. a full skip on a small saw and bar will cut way slower. I run semi skip on my 32" bars just so it doesnt take so long to sharpen.
