A bad flywheel never even crossed my mind. That's not one of those parts you ever think of failing unless it's a shorn molded flywheel key. Never the magnets though.

I told John to test the magnets polarity, he never did. Randy ,check the polarity to see if they are either both North or both South now. I have seen this phenomenon before on one of our SD 116 saws.

I'm not sure how to do that.

That is what got John hung up, its been explained already so I won`t repeat. Just that like poles repel each other and opposite poles attract each other.

Thank you for the t-shootin' quiz, it helps keep my skills good. Now how did it give spark from the magnet exciting the coil assembly, but not run?

It would pop a little, but would never fire off. I think it was too weak to fire under compression.
