My Homelite 550 don’t fire with a drink. Should this spring be further towards the outside world and does it matter that the rubber is a little deformed as shown? Any other tips? Previous owner said he tried getting it running and gave up when it seized up on him, now it turns over freely/perfectly with what feels like good/enough compression. Perhaps the carb was just letting a ton of gas in?
In my personal experience, it's more likely to be the coil that goes bad vs the transformer. It's low tech, but you can test the coil by lightly wetting two fingers and holding one on each contact point on the transformer mount. Then pull the saw over (with the plug out of course) and you'll feel a tickle if the coil is good. It's not like grabbing a spark plug wire at all, much more subtle.
