That "thank you" goes to all you guys who are just reading along and keeping your thoughts to yourselves right now. I appreciate that. It's easy to point fingers and place blame. Truth be told, it's really my fault more than anyone else's for doing like was already said. I tried for too long to let these things work themselves out. Sadly.....I'm not convinced that there is a better way though. We are a group of men. We should be capable of thinking of the greater good, and acting accordingly. I'll try to do better.

I'm gonna start by apologizing to Mason. It definitely isn't all your fault. I'm sorry I called you out the way I did. I've just become frustrated because each time trouble rears it's head in this thread, you are always directly involved. I would like to ask that you take a look at what you could do to make this forum better.

I'm biting my tongue very hard Randy, but in the interest of the forum I'll let it pass, but as you know I've never reported anyone for anything, I have no problem fending for myself either on the forum or in person.

I've never read a report you made Mike. Ever.

What we have here is sorta special. We gotta take care of it.

Thank you Mike.

That's bigger than it appears in the picture I believe.
its purty honkin. 42” ain’t gonna cut it, har har. I mean it will…just not in one shot. We don’t have a lot of trees in the desert but what we have is purty big. The eucs and salt cedars grow mostly unchecked along the canals and just get bigger and bigger. Unless some nincompoop comes along and bashes them down or back with an excavator or loader. What a mess.

I think I’ve seen you post about this before…slick stump…?
What’s the min you take on a face cut to lose the least amount of usable lumber out of a butt log?

Shallow conventional on that one. Its 1 of 5 stems off that stump growing out of a hillside so high stump. The way I slick stump has no face at all. So that would be the minimum... Lol

I'm guessing the front cut would be pretty shallow and the back cut deep.

Evidently I've been a horrible "leader" here.
Randy, you've done a ton of good, I'm sorry you're not currently seeing it, but you've been a truthful, well balanced leader. Please keep with it, I thank you for what you have brought to us all. It is really good and necessary for some of us to see what folks like you do and the good you bring out.

On a slick stump the front cut is normally in the 80% range, then pop the back 20
interesting...trying to visualize..which way is the lean I'm assuming in the direction of fall.

I was figuring a little cut in the front, go in on the back cut and wedge over.

But sounds more like a bore cut or something so you don't get pinched on the front cut (or a wedge?) and then trigger the back.
