Randy, you've done a ton of good, I'm sorry you're not currently seeing it, but you've been a truthful, well balanced leader. Please keep with it, I thank you for what you have brought to us all. It is really good and necessary for some of us to see what folks like you do and the good you bring out.

Yea, ditto this, even if we don't often say it.

I'm glad I'm not in the catbird seat!

I have learned so much from this site, and met so many good folks, it is hard to imagine being without it.

You learn how to do things you could never learn on your own. You learn to be both more efficient and safer. You also get to see what people do both around the entire Country, and the entire World! And as you share your own projects, you learn how to do them even better.

This site is priceless!

Holy hell. I bet that tree was 200 feet tall.
Haha. Actually it was only about 45’ tall when I cut it. Was probably 160’ before it broke. Big wind event came through that area and demolished trees. That one broke at 45’ and destroyed a cabin

That "thank you" goes to all you guys who are just reading along and keeping your thoughts to yourselves right now. I appreciate that. It's easy to point fingers and place blame. Truth be told, it's really my fault more than anyone else's for doing like was already said. I tried for too long to let these things work themselves out. Sadly.....I'm not convinced that there is a better way though. We are a group of men. We should be capable of thinking of the greater good, and acting accordingly. I'll try to do better.

I'm gonna start by apologizing to Mason. It definitely isn't all your fault. I'm sorry I called you out the way I did. I've just become frustrated because each time trouble rears it's head in this thread, you are always directly involved. I would like to ask that you take a look at what you could do to make this forum better.
I can appreciate this post more than many others made, it takes a leader to admit wrong, and to apologize :beer-toast1:.
Thanks Randy.

interesting...trying to visualize..which way is the lean I'm assuming in the direction of fall.

I was figuring a little cut in the front, go in on the back cut and wedge over.

But sounds more like a bore cut or something so you don't get pinched on the front cut (or a wedge?) and then trigger the back.

Read the lean, if its falling safe with the lean then just start cutting from the front "heavy" side and saw to the back. It will be constantly sitting tighter and tighter and takes practice and a good chain, powerful saw. At about 80% I decide whether to pull the saw and cut the back, or just keep powering through and sawing out the back. In veneer I'll usually put a small snipe in the butt for it to relieve and not peel the bark as it slides backwards off the stump. They generally always slide.... Sometimes real fast like. Its just a very aggressive production technique and is not very safe so I would not advise anyone to do it
