Hey guys,

I had some tech questions and looking for input. I have an electric chainsaw, the brand is The Handy. It is a powerful 2000 watt motor with a 16" blade. I like to trim my trees around the house with it. My wife likes me to trim some overgrowth around the property and build her a fire outside in the firepit. But, my dumb luck, I accidentally cut the power cord in half last time I used it. So now I need to put a new short cord in it that actually goes into the saw itself. I was curious if I could put a bigger gauge of wire to it or if there is any performance upgrades I could do to this bad boy. I am ready to get cutting again! Any input and help would be appreciated!

I doubt the limitation is the power cord. You should really see if your wife wants you to clean up badly enough to justify either a battery or gas chainsaw. A plug-in will be too much frustration in the long run.

Bigger gauge cable would be better. The heavier the cable the less power loss.

Yes, as big of gauge as you can go from breaker to motor.

Just splice it and heat shrink…done.
Unless you are trying to use a 100’, 16g cord, going bigger won’t make much difference.

I don't think putting a short larger gauge wire on it will do anything for you. Without pictures I am assuming you will have a short cord from the saw which you will plug into a longer extension cord, is this a correct assessment? If so, then you will probably want to match the gauge of your extension cord. If you are looking for more power, then changing to a battery operated or gas operated unit will be what you want.
