I have great experience with the fiskar x27 and oak.
Sorry to say, I don't have that lovely german accent. (Or was he from Austria? Like more famous germans)Was I the only one that read this one with Arnold Schwarzenegger's voice in my head?
Hmm not sure it was a while ago. I was suprised how it wasn't hollow. Most soft maple that size are hollow.You sure that is Red Maple? Looks like Norway Maple to me based on the bark. Norway is almost as hard as Sugar Maple and is very hard to split. Red Maple usually has a smoother bark, is softer, and easier to split.
Try cutting dead Locust that grew in sandy soil, you will sharpen your chain ever 2 or 3 rounds.
I don't know if red maple is called a soft maple, but that is exactly what we call soft mapleHere is a photo of my Red Maple bark.
