Lol. I generally cut about 3 to 4 feet above ground, fall the tree, then go back and make another cut close to the ground and stump it.
I will try this next time I have a tree like this. [emoji106]
A good way to test what i posted ,if making into firewood ,try splitting the round closest to the ground ,and a round 3 feet up ,the one closer to the ground the axe will bounce off most likely ,the one 3 feet up will split easier .

Well, the land owner said that pipe was just below breast height on the lawn side. There is a road right up against the other side that is 1-2' higher in elevation than the lawn so we'll have to wait and see where this goes. I have another co-worker we invited that had a flying drone and camera. Should be interesting either way.

This Yard Oak, & the one beside it, caused me to realize I needed a bigger saw.

Red & White Oaks around my house that had to go.

Well piss, the land owner called it off for this weekend. Forecast is calling for 14 mph wind. I wasn't going to argue with him. We're right on the edge of the lake so it might be blowing good even at 14 mph.

Many have no idea of how much force even a light wind can apply to a tree. Take that force times the moment arm and the result is huge.
Try handling a 4x8 sheet of plywood sheathing on a roof with a breeze and one gains understanding quickly.

Been cleaning up for my for my 80 year old uncle we cleaned up his yard after a storm
got the atv hooked up to a 5x9 trailer I burned 10 trailer loads thats 1 day

Next 2 days I been cutting on a portion of creek that's between hay fields and a
horse lot . any thing small. dead. ugly trees . limbs that hang down hits tractor

This is a more tractor...less back job.. cut, section n toss.. the short points on hay speer just barely work but no chains moving them... need about 6 of them 2 foot long make the tractor work better .
still had to clean 4 trailer loads of mess with some pole saw drops

IMAG0227.jpg IMAG0230.jpg IMAG0232.jpg
this is one of the two piles dropped in a gully that's one side of short creek
around 20 trees of all sizes ..was giving my miller mod saw a easy work out

I concur.
I never fell the tree from stump height. ie, I also recut the stump to flush it (5"-6" from the ground is flush in my book")
I typically only cut flares on very large diameter trees when cutting above them would be "out of position" for me. I'm only 5' 8" tall so I may not cut as high on the tree as some of you Paul Bunyan types.
Also, I never save any tree for lumber so getting it on the ground without damaging something is my only consideration. I don't care about fiber pull, split trunks or anything else. Just don't want to smash a structure.

Hey, if you don't need it for firewood, I made 6.5" X 6.5" post & beam for my new hunting cabin out of fallen (straight as an arrow .... almost) Ash Trees with a $40 Beam Machine attachment.

With the Emerald Ash bore, it may never grow again, don't underestimate it's future value.

The finished structure is 20X24, 2 floors, with no posts inside.

Have you got the building plans for this?
