I’ve seen builds where the stratos ports were gutted / divider removed and yes I believe it would increase the output , however the fuel mileage might be unbearable.

They do suck the fuel down if they are gutted. Tree monkey kinda proved several years ago that if gutting the stratos helps, the transfers didn’t have the right time/area. Made no difference on his builds

I was always of the opinion that gutting the stratos was counterproductive and a hack move typical of the "doesnt take to porting" pointed head crowd.
The fact of the matter is strato saws scavenge better and as a result have more forgiving torque curves.

Yes , it stands for stratified scavenging and these new saws will hand it to the old school offerings. Example : a 262xp is rated at 4.8hp, a 562xp 4.7 but put them in the wood after they’ve been “massaged” and the 562xp will emerge the victor whilst consuming considerably less fuel ️

I was gonna say tighten spark plug but you finally did that

If the job at hand is porting / building a new (or newer saw) that was cutting wood previously and the only the top end removed then a pressure/vacuum test isn’t really necessary imho. IF you split the cases and reassemble with new oem bearings and seals yah sure , go ahead and test it. It’s been my experience STIHL oem seals seldom fail especially when installed correctly. A few things I’ve picked up : Always use oem seals and oem circlips. The money you think you “save” by going aftermarket here can bite you in the fanny down the road! I had an “eared” circlip fail (fortunately it was caught immediately) and cause damage and expense. My theory is that the eared circlip fatigues over time and finally let’s go into the cylinder with the piston spinning at 10000 rpm - bending the coat hanger concept.
