Can't say that it's the "best" firewood saw, but my preferred firewood saw is my 357XP. Depending on the size of the logs my 346 is a close second.

I remember cutting a bunch of firewood using this saw in 1978:

Mac 610 Timberbear. Incredible torque. Still runs today and never fails to start. Problem is, nobody appreciates them anymore because they are no longer sold. I have a 28" bar for it, and it will pull it.

Ms290. Cheap, good, everyone has or had one.

My dad has one. The Poulan 3000 smokes it in the cut. In its defense, however- I have modded the 3000 a bit, and his 290 is bone stock.

Homelite super ez. I suspect they have cut a fair share. Nice and light great power.

I was thinking similarly-
Past: Growing up I ran through a lot of Homelite Super EZ150's (to my father's dismay, and his wallet's as well...), so I'm sure a lot of other people did also.

Present: I have put a whole lot of wood on the pile through the years with my MS310 (might as well call it an 029 Super because that's basically what is). Lots of bang for the buck for a Claim Shell saw and it has never let me down- knock wood! Prior to that, a lot of hours with 026's and 028AV Super's (still one of my favorites, which is probably why I currently have 3 of them).

Bucking up this tree with my MS310 is actually what caused me to realize that I needed to get bigger saws and the rest as they say was history.

Future: I am really starting to enjoy my 261, 346 and 362 a lot (no surprise that they are all ported saws). However, I find that I reach for my MS250 a whole lot too (light and strong enough to handle most projects). The 044 & 460 are great overall saw for most of the big stuff, but if I had to have a "One saw plan" would probably be a 362.

But luckily, I can still do "enie-menie-miney-moe" when i go out into the woods...
