I've had an MS 310 hot enough that they move around and it flexes. 201T feels like mush in my hand. Had two, sold both. I'm not really sold on your sharp chain feedback theory. I can tell a sharp chain from dull on any saw. The self feed requires a chain set up for that saw and the wood at hand. Really has nothing to do with the AV IMO. Soft AV systems are easily ruined by pinching the bar and pulling, pushing dull chain, chain with high depth gauges or no hook on the cutter face. My 2cts.

Funny you mention 066. That would be my least favorite Stihl AV system to run all day. It plain sucks and provides way too much feedback IMHO. Switching my saw again and going to softer rubber in my 066. 661 is superior to 066. 660 is not much better. 361 and 362 are far better than any 1122 Stihl. Most would agree with those statements.

Buy a Mac if you want feedback or an old 090 050 or 040.
Regards to feedback on sharp or dull chain's I didn't say dull who runs dull chains?
I'm talking how well your chain is cutting the art of hand filing.
The timber here is abit different to the timber there like cutting concrete at times even a sharper than new chain can in some of our hardwoods throw dust for chips.

Ok I had time to work on this little saw today..
I worked out a mod to help tune this thing was almost impossible to get a tuning screwdriver on the high and low with the saw running (see pics) I can do it with my eyes closed now was a good mod..

What I changed this time around- Spark plug to a known good one- Fuel filter- Pick up fuel line- Primer bulb- Carby to a known good stock one (also cut slots in the high/low to take a flathead screwdriver)-and gave the chain a rub not that it needed it that chain is off my ms211 is kind of a play chain basic but has a few hrs of my time spent on it.
I couldn't seem to find the fuel tank breather?? I gave up after a min or two of looking and moved on was running out of daylight as it was.

Ok yes is true I'm a little triggerd by this awesome little saw! think it's time to walk away from it for a bit...it runs awful!
Don't be deceived 70% of the cutting is the chain doing the work I dought it would have enough power to pull a stock chain in that hardwood...

Moving on from the eavl little black saw..
I got some testing done with the new to me ms180 today as well.
My helper turns up to lend a hand also lol..
Seems it's not a 2 mix?? (See pics) it's not a eco saw? tis an old school two stroke without the eco crap like the ms181..
Seems Stihl just fixed a few things that where letting the older saws down the air filter for one anyways few pics....

I suppose finding that your 180 is in fact the old motor in the new saw design could go some way to cheer you up a bit dealing with the "Evil One " !!
Guess there was a carry over of older motors with the new case .

The MS 180 is also availible as a 2Mix version. But your one looks like the normal version.
Iv seen Ms 180 non 2 mix in this case ...
Screen Shot 2019-06-02 at 13.56.53.png

But i have only seen the Ms 180 with the 2mix motor with ..this case.

Screen Shot 2019-06-02 at 13.56.39.png

For me its new information that they could be the new shape and still ..Not.. a 2 mix.
Wonder if it makes a difference where in the world the saws are made for.

That odd misfire thing you were fighting in vid 1 is just the same in this vid ? A right head scratcher to say ..The Least .. !!
Long shot......
I don't think you mentioned anything on the flywheel and if you did any timing work. Maybe there is something going on with a combination of the fuels you run in the saw ...coil...or timing /flywheel position. It sounds much more likely to be ignition now from your list of swaped components ?

Nope, it's the same here as you're used to. Only 2 mix engines in that case. The saw is a strato.

It has a round intake boot same as the old ms180 and no second butterfly above the carby how would they get the fresh air into it? the ms181 here is a Strato.
When I get time I'll pull it apart to confirm what the go is with it you can see the round intake in one my pics Stratos have a totally different intake that I'm aware of?

That's what it looks like to me without pulling it apart but I will pull the 180 apart to confirm.
I'm confused so is two mix the same as Strarto?
I'm off to look at some YouTube vids on 2 mix lol

Yeah I'm at a loss on this saw if anything it runs worse after doing all that to it won't idle at all now.
It's been kicking back on start up maybe the flywheel has moved? it has stock timing no advance there are a few more things to check after that think I imight give up on it's starting to get a little frustrating with no reward.

I found a few pics of 180 cylinders.

1st is old school 2T ms180 (looks the same as the cylinder on my updated ms180)

2nd is 2 mix ms180

3rd is Strato ms181

The thing with the 180 unlike the 181 that uses a duel butterfly , is the 180 2mix has a splitter in the engine side of the carb throat and intake .
The intake on your 180 still looks like the old shape though as you say but the picture angles are not conclusive.

Yea.. its a strato charged motor with the piston that has channels that line up with the strato passages.

Ok thanks yeah I get it now.
The only eco saw I own is the ms211 but I've been in that and did some mods and gutted the Strato fresh air intake to take in mix from the carby.

The 171-211 saws have always been a little more likely to give running and component malfunction issue (they also seem to be very cold blooded , even when there a new run in saw) than the 170 and 180 2 mix saws in my experience . That 180 2 mix should be as robust as your 170 old school motor but with that 1/3 hp more.
