Looks real hard, dense and dry Reggie. I bet it would be great smoker wood. [emoji106]

Looks like Red oak. Good firewood but will typically need 2-3 years split and stacked to dry out enough to make a good fire.

Red oak is 9 mo -1 yr cure in my parts. 9 months stacked in my garage between March - Sept averaging over 95 degree's and it's good to go. Split medium to small...and 1 yr in this Alabama heat stacked outside in the open sun.
I'm lousy with red oak right now though...thanks, guys...I'm Out!

That's right. I forgot about that.

From my experience,, once dried out the smell goes away.
But it does stink when green! Lol

True that for sure...about 4-6 months down here and it's barely discernable...except by my wife!:p:beautiful:

Went by the local park and noticed this tangled pile of various trees.
Anybody spot or can positive ID anything worth nabbing?
I think I see a limb or two of white oak & red oak...but curious to these others.

Thanks

It all burns. If it's real easy pickins, just take it all. Lol
Yep! I concur...eliminates all the guesswork, errant IDs, and well-intentioned advice.;)
I am still kinda given to learning various species of wood & what I burn from time to time though...lol
My learning curve on wood ID is amazingly crooked!:(:polutxoso:

Lol. Same here Reggie. Up in my neck of the woods I try to stick with oaks, maple, walnut, cherry as they burn well and are widely available.
