I also guess apple. I think the bark looks too smooth for Bradford pear. That being said, I haven't cut a ton of them.

Check out this close-up and tell me your thoughts? I'm still kinda baffled...although it has a nice sweet smell!!20210625_150317.jpg

Got this one in my yard. The bark is geometric and has horizontal “cuts” in it. I’m thinking gum, but the bark does look a but different than the alligator type I’ve seen on gum trees. It’s straight with no branches or leaves at all until around 20 ft up.

Thank you. Would make sense, as I have hundreds of small ones here. I’m wondering if it’s worth dropping and milling.

Confirmed. Found several others in smaller stages of growth. Same bark. You know your shít Pal.
I love trees. It's a beautiful wood when turned into lumber. They use it as a replacement for American chestnut lumber if a piece needs filled in. I dont think it's very strong or weather resistant, just looks alot like chestnut.

Hope you weren't rubbing up on that tree, has a nice poison ivy vine on it.
That I knew.

I grew up in a beach town, never saw poison ivy. When I moved here, the old German lady I bought the house from told me to “watch out for the poison Ivy in the back”.

I saw a fenced area with “leaves of three”. I used all things to kill it.

When she called a month later I told her I killed all the poison Ivy.

She said “how did u kill it all?”

I said I used everything. It was inside that fence.

She said “Those were strawberries “. I am now an expert at finding poison Ivy.

Well Studs,

More of the same type wood.
Run a few pieces through my splitter.
My wife and I gave it a thorough SNIFF test and we're baffled. It actually smells like Plum, Peach, and Pear, not Cherry.
Smells like it would do a number on some ribs, chicken, or brisket!!!
Smells mighty good!!
Anymore ideas?
