The split wood looks more like poplar from here. Kinda yellow green tint? hard to see in pic.
Poplar. Not ash, dosent even hardly resemble ash.The split wood looks more like poplar from here. Kinda yellow green tint? hard to see in pic.
Pics slackerDoes anyone know if Black Cherry smells good when dried and burned? I think I may have 2 different kinds of black cherry. One with a greenish tinted bark, and one with the traditional black cherry bark.
I think it’s the same, just the greener stuff is smaller diameter limb woodGreenish Bark Cherry
Sure. Great wood for smoking, although it can be pungent if left on for too long or if it's green stillOK. Good. TY.
Does it smell nice when burning?
Swamp cherry, wild cherry, black cherry...same tree.TY Kevin. I am familiar with the traditional swamp cherry. Smells good when burning.
First time I actually came across this Black Cherry.
The Black Cherry seems to have straight grained meaty wood, vs. The swamp cherry that doesn't seem to have any straight grain. It's more meaty. Tougher to split.
Wood is a bit more orangy red inside.
Black Cherry seems light colored inside, but straight grained.
If the cherry was green it can be pretty strongI smoked some ducks and turkey with cherry and thought it was too strong. I may have just gotten too much smoke or left them on the smoke too long.
I much prefer Hickory or just Oak.
