Do you know what is it?
It's not dead black cherry is it?Hey Guys,
Merry belated Christmas.
I stumbled upon this wood a few days ago.
It was dead, down, and barkless. It was kinda tough on the chains and splits rather tough.
Doesn't smell or look like any red oak I've gathered. The weight is above average.
I have no ideal identifying helps such as bark, leaves, twigs, or buds.
Yet, it smells really good and sweet, almost like soap or deodorant!
I've heard everything from yellow locust, cherry, red maple, and the most popular red elm!
Any ideas?
This was found in north Alabama.
Thanks,
Reggie View attachment 215520 View attachment 215521 View attachment 215522 View attachment 215523 View attachment 215524
Maybe. It's not dead black cherry is it?
Got to RI...got wayyy behind with school and taking care of my Pa this past 6-9 months.Nice Reggie. I like it. You been hustling lately...
Burning a mess of it as we speak! When wild cherry dies the sap wood rots off leaving just the colored harder wood. It cuts pretty hard. Makes good fire wood
Works good in the smoker too. When dried out, cherry surely smells good outside when burned...
I find that it coals up like Applewood. Just doesn't burn as hot.
