The Whiskey Thread

It seems like there hasn’t been a whiskey thread started here. Anyone else into whiskey?

I just picked up a bottle of Stagg Jr today for $65. Never had the chance to try it. About to open it up right now!

Damn! I should have picked up that 090 in person!

I tend not to drink terribly often, because I have trouble stopping, but I do have a fondness for whiskey.

I have pretty much stuck with Basil Hayden since my dad bought some to try a number of years back, and I will be picking up some Gibson's rye when I visit Canada this summer.

Sitting on the porch, sipping Laphroaig 10 at the moment. I tend to wander between Scotch and bourbons, or George Dickel, technically a Tennessee whiskey. The problem with Dickel is that it evaporates so fast! I open the bottle, pour a drink, then before I know it, it's empty!

On the bright side, for a couple weeks after, the UPS truck brings me all kinds of surprises!

Basil Hayden is smooth and tends to please a lot of people. Another one that I like that is similar is Evan Williams single barrel.

The Quarter Cask is my jam. I have a bottle of 10 year now I'm working through, but it's no QC.

I had tried lots of Scotchs, Bourbons and never found one under $50 that tasted good two evenings back to back . Four Roses bourbon is what I keep around for guests and the occasional old fashioned or sour. Neighbor gave me a bottle of Basil Hayden dark rye last Christmas and I absolutely loved it. Oregon Spirit rye is good stuff as well. Even though I was raised on bourbon, gonna have to accept that I'm dark rye only.

I'll only have a drink once or twice a week so I splurge a little. Basil Hayden 10 year or Bib and Tucker 10 year.

Despite the nice stuff that I have on the shelf, if I had to stock only one bottle, it would be either Evan Williams BiB or Wild Turkey 101. Those two keep me perfectly happy. I often pour those for people and present them as if they were expensive whiskey. Everyone usually falls for it.

I'm far from high end.
I have 2 whiskeys here, Jim Beam black and Crown Royal black.
I do have 7 different rums though. But again, nothing high end.

The distillery up the road makes an oat whiskey that’s easily some of the finest I’ve had. It’ll sneak up on ya.

My dad introduced me to that as well...after he read a novel where some police inspector drinks it.

I'm a big fan. If you are are going to go the trouble to smoke the grains with peat, then do it right!

That's my wife's favorite, when she's in a Scotch mood. I actually like the 8 better.

This inspired me to buy some regular old Evan Williams black label 80. It's like the Echo 590 of whiskies -- you don't buy it to impress people, you buy it because it's good.

This is the worst whiskey I ever had, and I've gone through a handle or three of Old Crow.

Mustang Gold 750ML | Rum Jham

Mustang is Nepal’s blended and bottled whisky. It is a blend of 8 years old scotch and selected grain spirits. It is kept in oak casks for years to get exceptional and smooth taste.

Interesting difference between coffee and whiskey... if I lose my whiskey glass, at least I can see the humor of the situation. If I misplace my coffee mug, it's NOT ONE BIT FUNNY!

I have 4 roses and Basil Hayden here. One bottle of Jameson which neighbors gave for fixing their door. I like The Macallan 12 year scotch with a cigar on the back porch.
