I've got a 194 that's assumed to be good, it needs rebuilding. If you're interested shoot me a offer and I forward that to the guy who technically owns it. I think I have a seal kit to go with it (aftermarket).

I’ve had crap luck with all the aftermarket carbs. Seems like 1 in 8-10 actually tunes right 1 in 3-4 kinda works. I’ve had the jets gall up on 3-4 retune and not be able to turn them anymore. I’d much rather pay 100$ for a new wt 194 than beat my head against the wall on a cheap clone carb. I actually just went through a real 194t on an 026 yesterday, wouldn’t tune right but had been rebuilt by local Stihl shop. I’ve never quite known why a carb will let the saw run with the low speed shut like this one and a few others have. But after clean the whole carb in the ultrasonic with the Welch plugs removed, putting in new needle, setting metering lever properly and changing out the brass check valve the carb now acts perfectly when tuning it. So even though I don’t know exactly want was going on 100% it works well now.

You can just use a regular “everything” type Stihl unlimited coil in its place. Just make a little metal bracket for the dogleg mount. Only problem is then the light won’t work…

It is a very good saw and starts easy, will swap the clutch and muffler cover for cleaner examples.

Wasn’t long ago the ms 250 was still 329$ of course with the last 3 price hikes it’s now 439 locally. But yes those prices in today’s money but in 1994 400$ for a saw was still a bit of money. Minimum wage was 3.75$/hour small
Business and 4.25$ large business in mn at that time now its basically 16$ an hour.

Customer dropped off a MS210C with the "easy start" or whatever Stihl calls their version. The rope would not budge.

I pulled the starter housing off and the mechanism audibly wound up as I pulled it off. The starter rope was so badly wedged in the pulley that I had to dig it out with tools.

Fixed the starter, put it back together, and spun the saw over a few times noticing it was badly flooded with fuel pouring out of the muffler, Then the starter locked up again...

Took the starter off again and noticed the flywheel would only rotate about 330 degrees and stopped pretty firmly near bottom dead center.

Tore it down further and found this...







I must assume the carburetor was leaking fuel into the crankcase, a lot of fuel, and when I spun it over enough went through the transfers that the saw hydrolocked and the starter spring and flywheel momentum were enough to bend the rod. Actually I suspect it had hydrolocked previously and that's what caused the starter bind/failure to begin with.

Are there any aftermarket short blocks that work on the MS210? I did a little searching and can find 250's, but it seems they don't just drop in and work with the 210 flywheel and coil set up.

Is this the end of the line for this 210?????

The 021/210 is one size the 023/not 100% they made a 230 would be a bored 021/210 and the ms 250/025 is a stroked 023/230. I can look tomorrow but I’m sure I have an 021/210 crank assembly for you

I like the idea of the forged connecting rod, I am not sure why they went with such a soft on on that saw.

I will follow up with the customer tomorrow, he may just decide to pull the plug on this one.
