I've got a few days to try 462mtronic and 500i demos from dealer. He thinks the 500i has enough time to have seated the rings but the 462 may need more time. The 046, my daily work saw performed better than both using same bar and chain.
Only two difference iare my saws all have holes drilled in their muffler covers along with carb adjustments. My saws have 8 tooth, demos have 7.
It's been 10 or more years since I've had a new saw, a 461. It seems like the rings seated after 5 or 6 tanks. I did my simple muffler modification at that point and had the saw performing like I'm used to.Fast acceleration for limbing White Pine, Spruce, and small hardwood limbs as well as the nice low end for felling and ripping large hardwood limbs.
I've only been able to buck a few logs. In pine they were all close. In black oak and ash the old 046 was much better. I was really disappointed in both demo saws. I tried a fellow loggers 462mtronic a while ago and it seemed much snappier and better on low end torque than this demo.
This is the only 500i I've run, so cannot compare it to another 500.
So I am asking will these saws gain like my 044s, 046s, 440s, 460s, and 461 always have with rings seated and opening up the exhaust? I have a few more days and will get to work them more, and will put an 8 tooth sprocket on.
