I threw in a new solenoid, and fuel filter on the 400c today, which solved the fast-idle problem!

While working on the saw, I opened up the muffler port, in the back corners of the deflector. I had read that opening it up on the front side of the muffler will melt the brake handle.

Also modified a 'west coast' style 660 clutch cover from aliexpress. It's a pretty good fit, although the oversize dogs don't quiiite align, so I'll probably work open the mounting holes.

I have a 3/4 wrap for a 362/400, and a set of stock OEM dogs, I would sell, if you're looking.

I've been reading up on 500i air filters, and am wondering what y'all are running...There's a blown up 500i on it's way to me, and it's missing the filter shroud, as well as a damaged air filter. Assuming it's worth a rebuild, I'll be needing a new filter setup.

Here are a few notes/products I've noticed:
· Rubber gasket under the foam center washer, to seal the OEM filter tighter
· Outterwears Pre-filter atop OEM
· Pool noodle slice, on the inside of the filter cover, to press filter tighter
· Oiled Foam units like 'westcoast saw', egan, and max-flow

Since I'll be needing a new filter and shroud regardless, the foam kits would all work out to ~$100. An OEM Shroud + Filter is around $70, so adding an outterwears + gasket will also work out to a similar price too.

The Egan and Max-flo's look like they have the most surface area
I say Maxflow, I run it on almost all my Stihl saws.

Tried to order one as the dealer quoted me $85. He tried to order it and the price had gone to $204 😳 forget it. And…they are backordered at that price.

Maybe they went to a kit only like the 362, new clutch cover roller chain catch and bigger dogs with the handle.

I like the Maxflo I have on my MM 500i. Absolutely nothing gets through. With the stock filter there were occasional fines that got through. I did the washer thing before the Max. I have a pool noodle slice on a 2nd 500 but haven’t used he saw yet.
I'm leaning Maxflo right now too, as it's the best bang for buck, seeing as I'm in need of a filter, and filter cover.

Unrelated to air filtration - has anyone cleaned up magnesium piston transfer from a 400c cylinder? I imagine since it's softer, that it should be easier to remove than aluminum even?

Not supposed to transfer that was partially a selling point on it but I thought you have a blown 500 coming and that’s aluminum so why worried about the 400’s mag piston.

Got another burned up 400c coming too, now :p. This one was straight gassed, so we'll see how it cleans up! There is an aftermarket piston/cylinder kit available now, but it's a standard aluminum piston... I'd rather shell out the dough for an OEM magnesium replacement.

No shortage of saw projects on my shelf. hah

Picked up an 044. Piston looks like new. Just need to clean the saw.

The muffle has a lot of baffles inside, is there an OEM muffler available without them?

I found a 1128 140 0603 muffler for sale, but I cannot find if this is any different than the one I have on it now.
