Well hell learned sumthn new today

Well longer rods on a stock crank would push the pistons up higher and hit the cylinder head so unless a set of pistons were specially cast with the pins higher in piston wall, that would allow longer rods on a stock crank. Many ways to get a bit of extra stroke length and combinations.

well the am crank showed up today, surprised the hell out of me, that was quick. the crank looks good, tight rod bearing. it weighs 11.8oz. my oem crank still has the bearings on it so i dont know the weight of one of those to compare. flywheel nut threaded right on. i still need to wait for my bearings to arrive before i can do any assembly, but so far...knock on wood...this crank looks good.

Looks good, now if the bearings fit on tight and the metallurgy stands up to use this may be a replacement for OEM cranks, not that I will ever need one but good for those needing cranks in the future.

i purchased it from ebay. there was a number on the listing so i called the guy, first i asked if he had any oem ones. he says he runs these aftermarket ones so i decided to give one a try. soon as the bearings arrive i will let you know how they fit.

Looking for a bit of experienced advice.

A couple of years ago I picked up an 036 carcass that has good comp (150 psi) but s missing a bunch of parts. It has spark. The P&C are in great shape. Not sure about the boot but I will do a Pressure and vac check on the saw before I start to buy parts.
Needs a clutch cover, sprocket, bearing, washer, "C" clip and rim, top and AF cover, AF, tank vent and fuel and impulse lines. Also new clutch springs which I'll get from the dealer. Other than those items It seems intact and in fairly good shape.

I am planning to order a bunch of parts from Huztl for it.

Anything in the above bunch of parts I should stay away from and buy OEM?

I would really like to get it cutting again.

I received some of the parts and borrowed a few from my 026. Still need and air filter grommet, choke rod, and sprocket washer.

Starts easy when warm (no choke rod) and oils well. Just waiting for a call from the Stihl dealer on the little parts. Going to try it out today if the rain doesn't come.
It seems pretty peppy.
I'm guessing it's an 036 Pro since it has a decomp and adjustable oiler.

I had a chance to cut a few cookies with it this afternoon. It does run fast. The chain on it is getting pretty low on cutter size so it was throwing pretty small chips. Looking forward to trying it with a better chain.
I'll have to get an 18 or 20" bar.

My take on it is to aid in atomization, I have ground them out to as round as possible, that only helps if the tunnels from lower to upper transfers are made much larger and the upper transfers extended over toward the intake side as much as possible. To aide in this I even reverse the orientation of the piston putting the ring keeper pins facing the exhaust side.
If the transfers are being left stock or not modified much then its better to leave that intake hump.

What is the principle difference between crankshafts for MS360 and MS361?

Wrist pin size is 10mm on 360 and 11mm on 361?

Anything else?
