i am going to try out a aftermarket crank. i wont need to borrow a bearing separator that way and ill have a new rod bearing. would rather use my oem one, but will give a aftermarket one a shot.

Although I've never done it suspect a pressed together crankshaft is a heat shrink fit .I'm not saying it's impossible to do it without the proper stuff but it would be difficult .Falicon in Florida could probably do it but you'd have more than the price of a new crankshaft in it .

There's several places that will press them apart for you and fix if they have a bearing that size. They'll even stroke them while they've got it apart.

In most cases if a big end bearing is already bad the crank pin is likely damaged as well so it would be useless to change them out considering the cost of having it done compared to just a new crank.

Hint,if you have a scuffed pin on the crank I'd seriously think about adding some more oil to the gasoline
i purchased it about two months ago off a local classifieds site, pennswoods. i only got to run 3 times before it quite. even the main bearings look dry and dont sound smooth. but i just use one bottle to one gallon gas. never had any problems in the past.

What is a AM going to cost you? Just curious to what they cost compared to OEM.

the aftermarket was $35. i looked for used oem, but then there would still be some wear on the rod bearing, and i would still need to remove the bearings, if they werent already. the aftermarket looked ok in pics, ill let you know when it comes, should be later this week.

I have yet to use or even handle one of the AM cranks, have put together a big heap of saw with OEM ones. Helps to have all the tools needed though.

Same way you do a V8 offset grind the pin. It costs about as much as a new 261 so it's not worthy most of the time. Some people have the machines to do it at home and I'm jealous.
I thought you stroke a V8 with longer con rods
