I think the only detriment to the 038s is the air filter not being the oval type.
I really like my 038 Super as a one saw plan and was glad Stihl reinstated the same displacement with the new MS400.

Thanks, I knew some of the coils are compatible with each other, but not what ones specifically. I probably would have ended up looking in my parts list to find what models and gen's will work. It wasn't a limited coil was it?
no! it was Jacob J that gave me the info and he knows
his stuff, which coils limited, and vice vesa. The 1309 coils spool up
nicely and are sought after,

I use it to mark the length and sometimes the smaller stuff. They sound ausome for a little saw. Picked mine up for 50 bucks with a case.

That was a good deal, after seeing your post I actually went looking for one on CL. Now that I now they come with a working hand brake, I will try to pick one up for a long term keep saw.

I recently picked up an 031 AV (AVQ with the electronic Quick Stop). This is my first experience with a saw like this, very peculiar that when you shut it off and start it again you have to reset the brake in order to get the chain to spin. Truth be told it was unnerving the first time, I thought maybe something in the clutch had come apart.

Can anyone shed some light on how this system actually works?

I'll try to put up some photos tomorrow, the bar still has most of the paint and says "Made in W. Germany"
