It's evidently a model of the 038 AV of 61.5 cc .BTW grafting an 038 mag cylinder is not just as simple of bolting it on . People like to do it I guess but they probably made more mags than any other model of 038 .I've got an AV I modified plus two Mags. One German one Brazil .The later is modified .

Is the 038 mag cylinder a direct bolt on or little moding to make it fit?
Good looking saw too

No the 038 is not a bolt on, but many threads listed as "hybrids " detail putting together the popular 034/6 + 044 cylinder.
They are more compatible.

On the 034/036 it is a bolt on but some of the components need some alteration .Like the plastics and the muffler bolt on .An 034 super is basically an 036 BTW .
Going back to the 038 mag cylinder on an 044 I personally don't see why other than the challenge to do it .The 038's take to modifications very well without the lower end of an 044 thrown in the mix to confuse things .Just my thoughts ,nothing more .

Bought my first stihl. Will buy 044 HD filter base and 038M cylinder to make it a ripper

What kind of full wrap are you using? It looks off/at an angle, not aligned with the gunning sight (black line) there

Had to take down a large oak at my house over the weekend. Was working out of a 55ft tow behind boom lift. My back was not thrilled about the idea of hanging out of the lift with my 60cc saw once the stuff got too big around for my top handle. Went to the local dealer, "just to see what they had as a lighter option". Came home with a 261 and an 18 inch bar. Seemed to fit the bill quite nicely and boy did it pay for itself in just one job! Really like how lightweight it is for being only 10cc less than my next saw up from it. Pulled that 18" bar with no problem in oak. Can't wait until it loosens up and it gets a little work on the bench. Should be a great saw for years to come!20220613_154504.jpg

The older I get the more merit I give a lighter saw .A 3 cuber can do a lot of work .
I've got to agree Al. With how impressively well it pulled the 18 I don't think it would have too much trouble with a 20. For me, a hobby cutter, a 20" bar will cut 85% of the work I do and if the 50cc take 1.287964 seconds longer a cut than my 60cc or 73cc with a 20, so be it. I'm not getting paid to do any of the work I do, so in the long run my arms and lower back will thank me :D

Are you running 3/8 or .325 on this 261cm? They are a really nice saw.

Came with a .325 and a green chain. Got rid of the green chain and picked up two yellows. Full chisel. Any benefits to converting to 3/8 over the .325? More bar options probably?

There's a lot to be said for the chain also .I recently bought a new loop of Stihl RS .325 for an 024 which is much harder than the Oregon I had previously .On EAB killed ash which is hard as a rock and on the ground as careful as you try you will hit dirt .While it will still pull big chips if you hit it with a file which is a 5 minute job you get it all back just that fast .You have to use a good file though because hard Stihl chain will eat up Oregon files in short order .On a 16" loop it's only 2-3 more bucks and will last tw0- three times longer than Oregon .So in essence you get what you paid for in the long run .My two cents on that topic

Couldn't agree more. The first saw I ever bought came with oregon chain so I bought two oregon chains with it as well. Because that's what came with it. For s**** and giggles I decided after about 6 months to try some stihl chain. Could not believe how much better it held up and how much harder it was the first time I went to file it. Here I am 4 years later and all I have is stihl chain for all my saws. Much prefer it over anything else I've tried. As with you though Al, just my .02
