Welcome to the forum.
The QS models are not overly desired over here. Good luck with your build.

Bought my first stihl. Will buy 044 HD filter base and 038M cylinder to make it a ripper

Got one of those as well, nice little saw! Welcome to the club.

Does anyone know if there is a .325 drive rim sprocket that will fit an 044 clutch drum?

Yes. Might not be genuine Stihl, but there are .325 rims that fit standard spline hubs

Would you happen to have some direction, possibly a link? I have searched quite a few venues and not been able to locate anything

Somebody dropped off a 170 that refuses to accelerate off idle. What is a good baseline setting for the "L" jet?

Mark
Try cutting 2 or 3turns out of the metering lever spring. Ii modified an ms 250 carb for my 180 and it's a screamer

If you go to Ebay or Amazon and search .325 standard spline rim you'll get some results. Seems like just 9 pins showing up.
Also check with @DDave as he may have some better insight.

Basically the 9 pin is the only one that is large enough diameter to accommodate the standard large rim pattern.
I know it's possible to convert an 034 stihl to the large spline 044 drum ,but not sure if its possible to reverse it?

Possible with the right bearing and drum, but not advisable due to the failures that necessitated the upgrade in the first place.

Why convert an 044 to .325 anyway?
Cause I like to party. I never did the upgrade on my 036. It's ported and pretty sporty and I haven't had any failures yet.
I was kinda thinking why would someone run a 24" 3/8 bar and chain on a 026 or a 036? Smaller chain goes faster, I'm trying to get the job done and go home.

The bearing is very small on the 034 drum, and I've got 2 saws from the junkyard with that part failed ,so not uncommon in my opinion.
Honestly the only downside I can think of is that the particular failure of that part is or could be catastrophic, as in "oh I ruined the crankshaft!" Other than that I think its fine to run whatever you desire.
I run .404 on alot of stuff .

Generally speaking all things considered a 3/8" chain will out perform a .325 on a saw large enough to pull it .An 044 was designed for 3/8" .325 size chain was designed for 3 cubers like an 026 etc .3/8" lo pro replaced 1/4" for 2 cubers like a Stihl 200T etc . 6 cubers like a Stihl 066 can go either 3/8" or .404 depending on what you are cutting . .404 takes a bigger bite but it also takes some power to run it .
