I currently have two cylinders off my 661s, both running well, I did however notice light scuffing just below the intake port on both, is this something these saws are prone to?

One saw has also polished the bottom of the intake side skirt to a mirror finish, has anyone had this before?

So I am building a scrap yard 066 round top and came into an early 56mm big bore cylinder, does the 56mm 661 piston get used in that,or is it a different pin/skirt height?

HW 066BB left, OEM 661 right

I know that the ms461’s are getting hard to find so if anyone is looking for one the local dealer has at least 1 but I’d be willing to bet probably more like 4-5 between all the stores they have.

Glad you like the max flows personally not a fan of the looks and won’t put one on my saw. If I was to do anything I’d take the cover off and put a stack style on myself

The actual filtration part and how nasty it can get before you swap outperforms everything else. That's enough for me.
Could care less about looks.

Basically the result of the lousy HD filtration setup everyone claims is so effective..., along with the very high probability of poor (or lack of) filter maintenance in the first place.

MaxFlo is almost a must for the 661's. I personally think it's a cool look on those and is proven to be far superior to the stock filtration. The others don't get many style points for their rather boxy look, but neither do ruined top ends.

But hey, you're either stylin', or cuttin'.

Well overall the saw was "decent" however one glaring issue. There is a crack and front bar stud hole is stripped.

I thought about welding it. But I would have to take apart the saw anyways to bake the oil out. And even then the juice wouldn't be worth the squeeze. So a new PTO side case half is in my future.

Saw does start and it's alot easier to start than my 660. But definitely doesn't have the grunt.

It's also a first gen coil which I figured.

Welp I just went to my dealer. Going to call Stihl to see about getting the serial number side of crankcase.

Gotcha. Guess I didn't realize it was an actual project. Maybe you can luck into a useable case half somewhere. New is gonna be $268.00 through an honest dealer.

Well neither did I .

I looked around alittle couldn't find a PTO side. But I figured 260ish from a dealer get it over done with. Plus I'm going to buy the updated coil kit for them and a few other odds and ends.

Ouch. I can get a complete 572 shortblock assembled with crank/bearings/seals for 200.00. I guess 90cc saws are more expensive?
