Nice job. But I'd keep it original with points if it were me. Why do you want to change to electronic? A Bosch points setup is damn near bullet proof and makes for a strong saw. The trigger unit ignitions had their own problems unless you plan to eliminate it and fit a MegaFire type module.
So I added one of those plates on the bottom of my 500i. I've had one on my 660 and I didn't have any issues with it.
However on the 500i not so much.
A. Can't access the oiler. Not really that big of a deal.
B. It's bouncing off crank case.
Which was unnerving as all hell since I knew the top of tree was rotten but it didn't know how far down it went. At first it thought it was something in the tree but the chain was fine.
Then I wondered if it was the clutch but it only did it under load.
It wasn't until I finished the notch that I noticed it.
Side note this was the most grubs I had ever found inside a tree. - There was even more in the tree still.
Edit: looks like the seller will be changing it which is good news. Just surprised it made it without anyone noticing.
Got the case together with the new OEM bearings and gaskets. Original cylinder and piston with new rings. Decided to go back with points ignition. Should finish up this week and post it.
Looks good. Pay close attention to the oil pump and oil adjuster 'O' rings for good fitment. A vac/pres test would be a good idea if you have the means. Those particular locations are prone to air leaks and can drive you nuts if you're failing a vac/pressure test and can't figure out where.
