Yes , I used a ms361 for 4 years at my first park and really fell in love with it after using a bunch of other saws. I haven't run any 034s or 036s yet but its the size and cc that perked my interest.
I should be able to get it together in the next few weeks and run it.
Oh and the original cylinder isn't too bad either but the piston is toast ,skirt on the exhaust side it almost paper thin. I'll probably clean up the oem cylinder and box it .

Depends on the cylinder. There were two different 48mm cylinders used on the 034's (one actually on a non-'S') and 2 more different ones listed for the 036. I've heard of at least one more as well. There's a fairly extensive thread about all of them somewhere -- AS I believe. Worth finding and reading if you're diving into one of the 1125 saws.

Just an 036 top end is an improvement for an 034 .I did one that Kevin (Cut for fun ) ended up with on a trade for a Mac 805 .I've got an 034 super which for all intents is the same as an 036 .I'll put some zip to it one of these days .It was one of my finds in a dealers dead pile that like the others was not dead .I've started it but since I don't need it have really never ran it .

This 034s has a (very) dented cheese grater front cover. Any of you guys know what part # I should use to replace it? I tried an AM but it was too short. Any guidance or wisdom would be very appreciated.

And if you have a cheese grater cover you’d part with, PM me.

I think 034s has a spacer that is required. Not sure if that was what you mean.

The original from this saw didn’t use a spacer but the AM definitely would need one. I’m just wondering if I can find one (or a cover for this one) that doesn’t use a spacer.

Just asking, but are you 100% sure your jug is a 034S? I always thought the 034S jugs needed the muffler spacer?
Check with Doc. He knows these inside and out...

I’m not 100% about it, but it’s an 1125 series saw, labeled 034 super, original to my knowledge, from the original owner, the cylinder is marked Stihl, and measures 48mm. From what little I’ve read, there was an old style (cheese grater) that didn’t need a spacer and maybe the 34s needs a spacer to run the later mufflers? Either way, that’s what I’m trying to learn. I haven’t asked the Doc.. I’m sure he’d know without even thinking but he’s a busy dude and I harass him enough already.

The cover from an 034 to an 036 cylinder won't fit right and the bottom muffler bolts will require spacers . I'm not exactly certain what Kevin did but he figured it out .I just dealt with it when I owned it .-----After thought the reason that 034 ended up with an 036 top end in the first place was my ham handed attempt with a flap wheel to clean off a little bit of transfer .Peeled the plating off slick as a whistle .First and last I ever did that .I learned my lesson .

Lots of people just use a couple 1/4 or 5/16 nuts as a spacer. I know it’s kinda red green but that’s what I did on one of mine without issues

Welp,

I'm more annoyed and PO'd about a purchase I made here back on April 28th. Ordered a NOS tank housing for my 038 from a place down under. Well, it left there May 5ht, arrived in the U.S. June 7th, says it made it to a U.S. facility on June 13th, then made it Bridgetown Washington, on August 18th, saying it ready to be picked up? I live NY....not driving cross county....IDK what the heck happened here, but I just sent another message explaining this and that it needed to be resolved....

I don't know why I just didn't find a housings at one of the local shops here....FML

It just depends what you wanted .A cast aluminum alloy lower assembly for a original 038 AV doesn't come along that often .However the high impact plastic assembles for the later models should be available .Unless you want it to be a total restoration actually the plastic is better .FWIW I spent two years on E-bay finding an original cast alloy unit to repair an 038 AV that didn't cost a kings ransom. .That one cost me $45 .A new high impact plastic unit from a dealer was near $200 .

Let me add a bit of caution .If the new lower suspension and fuel tank are impact resistant plastic they take a special screw to connect the front handle much like a blunt end wood screw .Be very careful you get the correct ones.An M5 torx head will not work .If those screws are too long the vibrations over time will bore holes right through the oil tank .You can't fix them with J-B cold weld or any type of sealer .The only way to do it is split the cases and heli arc them shut .To mention the saw is e-coated ,it's not paint .It needs to be all ground off clear to bare metal .I've been down this road .

I finished putting together the 034/ 036 with the pop up piston.
I got an opportunity to make a few cuts with an old 20" bar and chain I had. Alls I can say is it cuts VERY strong , I don't think it would have any problems pulling a 24" bar.
I did get a OEM decomp button for it and I'm glad its there ,even with only one tank of mix run through it the compression is pretty stout, I'd be afraid it might brake the plastic starter without it.
I did a slight muffler mod on it by making a slice and stretching the metal with a small ball peen hammer to get a nice rounded bump deflector.
I don't like the zama carburetor its keeping a tune fine and it returns to idle nicely and jumps up instantly in rpms ,but it's just so damn touchy, it likes one spot or none ! Im about 1 1/4 on low and 7/8ths on the high.
Anyway I'll try to get a video of it this week.
