anyone deal with this, first two photos were of a guy on Facebooks 291 don’t know the circumstances but was a low use saw just out of warranty supposedly. Transfer cover came loose and saw blew. Last two photos are 2 ms391 cylinders one has transfer covers and ones solid cylinder. A guy I know actually had the transfer cover on his 391 loosen up and blew the saw. I’m wondering is this a new vs old design cylinder and if so what’s new and what’s old. Or is if just a hit or miss on where it comes from? Not saying widespread but looks like it might be an issue, I don’t see any bolts looks as if they’re epoxied on.

this is the 391 picture the guy sent me and the plate in the circled area is loose, only thing I can think of is a transfer cover is loose. Didn’t even think of it till I saw the other post and saw the one that came completely off.

You sorta have an apples and oranges set of comparisons going here between 271/291 (1141) and 311/391/362 (1140) families.

The weird side/x-fer cover version is the newer of the 1141 designs and has the more conventional intake now. That 1141 020 1201 is the older 291 cylinder. 1141 020 1206 is the current one. That saw went through a ton of changes along with the top end.

The 391 cylinders both have the strato style intakes with the later one having the weird x-fer covers. 1140 020 1202 and 1140 020 1204 respectively.

Those bonded covers are failures just waiting to happen.

Yeah not really doing any comparisons really just thinking the new stratto cover style may be problematic with the epoxy or whatever they use on them coming loose. Not sure I’m a fan of the new and improved design

I need some help with an 011 that came in. Owner said he was adjusting the carburetor and it just locked up...I got it opened up and found the rivets had failed and turned the reeds loose. The reeds in turned knocked the bearings out of the rod on the crankshaft.

For starters, I am looking for an IPL so I can search by part numbers. As a minimum it will take some gaskets, a piston, the reed plate, and possibly and anti-vibe mount or two. I can't see any kind of retainer used to hold the bearings in place, how it this assembled with the one piece rod?

Pretty sure the rod moves enough to the side to load bearings in then it relies on the piston cylinder assembly to keep the whole thing in line so the best at put. Only have an ipl for the 012 which I’m pretty sure uses the same reed. Actually think the 010,011 and 012 are all the same family of saw with different cylinders. I need to dig a bit but I have a brand new reed for one of these saws. Also a brand new piston for I think it is the 011 but need to check

One more note just to follow up on the 291/391 cylinder discussion. They aren't interchangeable from one to the other in either instance without major changeouts of other corresponding parts. No drop-in / swap-outs here.

So I’ve never held one but am assuming they’re epoxied on? So if they loosen up and saw blows would be clean up cylinder if not wrecked new piston and rings then rig weld covers on maybe since no bolt holes.

I've got the IPL on Cd .It's in with the 010 IPL What I don't know is how to get on messenger to get a persons E-mail address .Because of cry baby saw manufactures I won't set it out over the internet on a forum .Lawdy they whine like a broke dick dog over such things .At one time about half a dozen of us tried to make a repository of every chainsaw part lists ever made .The maker of the famous orange saws pitched a fit .I had hours and hours of copying files from paper IPL's .Magnus was in on that too .It nearly overloaded Mike Acres server .
