I finished reviewing my recently acquired DOLMAR 152.
Piston was severely dented so I had to replace it with a new GOLF piston.

Few more gaskets, carb diaphragms, a bit of cleaning and there she is:

Unfortunately the ignition (a Bosch KDT-type electronic ignition) doesn't work and gives no sparks.
After measuring the transformer and seeing reasonable resistance values, I tried the fix Jim described
but with no success. Still the ignition doesn't fire.
Seems like a have to look for a replacement ignition...

I have one of these that I want to try to see if it can be adapted to fit Dolmar's. Not had chance yet!
I tried that one time plate is bigger than dolmar. Tried swapping just the trigger. Couldn't get any of it to work with the dolmar flywheel

As a last ditch effort could use point conversion transistor chip. Then either slot the holes a lot or use point flywheel. Here is one I did that the capacitor didn't fixIMG_20220403_120731062.jpg

I see conversion to ignition chip could be some kind of last resort but would like to avoid such both-up (no pun intended).

I currently have been offered a used 152-ignition which I will give a try first and if that doesn't do the job then
maybe switch to pointed ignition (I have NOS in stock, only will need a pointed flywheel since mine is missing the cam)
or I might try a 119/120 ignition (hoping they are easier to find than 152 parts).

Any 119 or 120 ignition should work too. Just make a mental note of where the flywheel key is early 119 was different than 120 and 123. Key was in the same place as points but didn't have the cam

A german collector sent me a used ignition harvested from another DOLMAR 152.
It has the same Bosch-number than the faulty one built into my saw.

Built in the "new" one today and it gives me strong sparks!
Tried to start the saw and BINGO — starts and runs fine :ARMS1:

Now that my 152 is running, I carried my other members of the DOLMAR 114 family of saws into the garden to join for some family-snapshots:

SACHS-DOLMAR 153 (the 144 line's final development step)
POULAN 6000 (a DOLMAR 152 in disguise)
DOLMAR 152 (my recent acquaintance, a very early specimen and except displacement very similar to...)
DOLMAR 144 A (2 of them, the revised and improved 2nd version of DOLMAR 144)

What's still missing in my collection: Early 144 and late 152.
For now I'm very happy with this bunch of beauties, all of the are runners and some have been shown at GTGs.
