Easy Start 5105 kaput. New parts but unsure of how to tackle this. I envision the starter spring unwinding.View attachment 467798View attachment 467799

It's easier than it looks, if you use the repair manual for the 6100 I posted a couple of threads ago as it's exactly the same. Probably an overkill on a 50cc saw but to be honest as long as you get out of the habit of drop starting, they work very well! My problem is remembering which saws have the easy-start!

I find the problem is after many years starting saws 'the normal' ways, it's getting your head around how these things work, see attached video of a 6100 starting!

#181-160-170 is the number for a non-easy start for the 50cc's. They call it a modification set. I have one for my 5001 but am unable to get the correct sticker for it. It's aesthetics for me. Don't need help with 50cc's. Yet.

I despise the Easy Start being used to drop start any cc saw.

Also, it feels as if the Easy Start wants to fall apart on my XS5000 & MMWS6100.
They both like to "kick back" which is quite unpleasant.

Yeah, 31cc up to 90cc for me - unless hydrolock flooded no problem.
Cold on the ground start, warm restarts drop start.

I have a Chinese 45cc which tears the string out of my hand / I installed a Chinese Easy start / I've never seen anything like that again

Yes they are the same besides some of them had the trigger lock button so depending on what carb you have you might want the trigger lock button

My ea6100 is giving me some problems and I'm really thinking it's the coil ?
I got the saw as pieces and went over the entire thing buying missing pieces as i went .
Got it all together and can't get the saw to rev ... rebuilt the carb all new lines and filter .
I can feather the throttle all the way to about 3/4 and it just dies .
I'm really thinking it's the ignition coil ...are these saws know for this or has anyone had this problem before ?

Luckily, I have yet to encounter a Dolmar with a faulty coil.

The 5k models are supposedly prone to coil failures, or so I have been told.
Wouldn't know about the 6100 though.

Do You know someone You could borrow a coil from, possibly even a carb?
Any Dolmar running issues I encountered so far were fuel delivery related.

I do own a couple saws that a trusted US Makita dealer & friend says have faulty coils - but they are fun to run defective.
A PS-460 that likes to cold start in reverse and when turning the correct rotation exceeds 15k rpm - she is my favorite limbing saw!!!
And a PS-5105 that just cold starts in reverse.
I am not replacing those coils, I just wish the 5105 coil would have a faulty rpm limiter too.

Looks like my saw is missing the 'redirect' component... Now I'm a bit stumped if I can get this thing running without it!

As you can see the cable goes down thru the grommet which is part of the cable assembly. Below the grommet it's bent backwards and hooks into the carb's throttle-lever.

Thank you, friend! I am missing the grommet entirely, but was able to source one for $10 from someone selling a 3410 case on the 'bay.

I have changed quite a few Dolmar / Makita coils of various sorts : 9000, 7900, 5030(5105) 5121, 3500 and 3200 and 115 / 520 and 112-116 and 120i / 6800 the worst series I understand is the 5 series. The later variations age wise seem to be the best. Some of the models you have to update with coil and flywheel as a matching pair. I try to buy / keeps pairs of flywheels / coils from parts saws if I can to use as a test as new genuine are getting harder to find and are expensive. Ask on here for anybody with a spare coil to try to eliminate or confirm your issue, many helpful folks on here.

For the heck of it I tried to run it WOT with the choke on and it ran without cutting out like it's been doing .
Did another p/v test and its all good ..turned it over a few times and it holds p/v
I'm kinda stumped here
Anyone have any other ideas ?
I'm still not sure it's the coil because everything I have been reading is the failure happens when it gets hot or doesn't start at all .
This starts rite up and idles all day just dies at full throttle and shuts rite off .
