Yes, Mg for Magnesium!

It cracked again because:
- of the extreme wear at the bar tail contact area (that's just ugly!)
- the covers outer circumference touches the PH and gets bent out because of the bar tail contact area wear

You could grind off some of the covers PH contact area and JB weld it again.

Well that sucks. Big save guys! TIG welding was actually invented for welding magnesiun and aluminum for the aircraft industry. However, I've never done it, nor do I want to. It's very difficult because the arc runs away fron the puddle, and Mg is extremely porous such that it would be impossible to get the oil out. I ground it out already, and found another crack T'd off the main one. I'll JB weld the snot out of it and see what happens.

I posted a WANTED in the chainsaw parts section for a sprocket guard. I think any Dolmar/Makita 70cc class cover will fit, right? The new ones are expensive.
I just sold a blue one. Kind of regret it. I might need it someday!

They are not cheap at all!!

On edit: any cover from the 6400 7300 and 7900 series will fit.

There's a couple on ebay right now.

Dag Nabbit! I deployed JB weld to glue the clutch cover crack. As soon as I put the bar and chain on and torqued it down, it cracked again. I have to grind off the JB and TIG weld it. I've been gtting a lot of practice lately.....

I also noticed that the chain was quite hard to spin with the bolts torqued down.. There's a slight front-to-back cup in the cover which I will address when I weld the crack.

But the aluminum is worn to the point where the cover indexes into the bar slot. That may be the cause of the crack. Perhaps I can build that back up with welds, or take the easy road and mill that entire area flat. When I say "mill", I mean hand file, LOL!

I know you already have a cover, but I ground probably 1/8"+ off the bar-clamping area on a thrashed 066 clutch cover trying to flatten it and it still works good. The cracks and missing chunks are still there, but at least the cover actually holds the bar tightly now!

Seems I failed to share pics of my PS-6000i "Classic Edition" (see https://opeforum.com/threads/the-of...kita-dolmar-chainsaws-thread.694/post-1464817) in her final outcome after cleaning and tidying up her:

Strong runner and starts very easy.

I'm a great fan of this family of saw models: 116si, 120si, PS-6000i and PS-6800i. All of them are very good performers and a pleasure to use! It's a shame Makita/Dolmar has dropped supply of spares years ago.

I currently have in possession a very early SACHS-DOLMAR 116iH, a DOLMAR branded 120i coloured in Makita teal, a 120si built 94 (with non-permanently driven oil-pump), a PS-6800i of 1995, a PS-6800i (2001, Classic Edition) and this PS-6000i Classic Edition of 2001.

Might be time for pics of a family gathering of all of them ...

Dolmar PS-6100 MMWS , she will certainly show her whole potential now that she got a quality chain (modified Oregon Vanguard, technically a LGX now) as opposed to the crappy Archer loop she was wearing.
