Gave a new life to two teal models over the weekend, A 6000i which had piston failure, a not looked after unit, just need to find a top handle for it now ( didn't come with it) and a nut for the stop switch. The 5200i was completely gummed up with veg oil and saw dust and never cleaned, owner said hadn't used it for a few years, but it started up, which of course stripped the oil pump gear due to the pump being seized up due to gummed up by old veg oil! It ceases to amaze me how people can run a mechanical item without any maintenance at all. Took an age to clean all the mess out, not perfect but a usable good running machine brought back from the dead!!

It's was pretty grim, even some mould, that's what you get from using the wrong bar oil. What was surprising was the piston was in great condition, you can just see the bottom of the skirt in the photo, just a couple of scratches on the inlet side as air filter mesh had a small split in the mesh on the underside, especially as the cylinder fins were packed full

good work, cleaned up nice! usually I blast a saw pretty good with air to get most of the gunk off... but somehow I don't think even 165psi would have touched most of that. lol

If you can believe it I tried with air, but it was like glue and baked on!! brake cleaner and a mixture of diesel and petrol wouldn't shift it, I just left as it required a strip down anyway. Alcohol was the only thing that got it loosened up ( for the saw not me) I hate it when I see saws pictured after strip down that hadn't been cleaned off first, but in this case I had no choice! Satisfying to get a useable strong runner out of it, great saws those 5200i's ( Teal 115i) one of my go to saws for quick small jobs, always start no matter what!

Wow, I have seen quite a few gummed up saws in the past, but your 5200 definitely is one of the worst.
What's puzzling me is: Usually veg oil gum not only glues everything together but also wreaks
havoc on the powder coating it covers.
So maybe your kinda lucky in that the debris on your saw appears to have preserved rather than seized her.
May even more amazing the saw hasn't died from overheating!

I was also surprised but very little corrosion, I think that maybe initially saw was run on proper bar oil but never cleaned, putting a layer of oily crud over everything, then some kind of veg oil was used, the original oil soaked mess protected the saw from the veg oil attack. The oil tank lines and pump were solid, not sure which veg oil was used? It was my view that the saw was used for cutting dry timber typically a wood workers tool, not used heavily so not getting chance to get very hot and of course never, ever maintained, the saw was covered in saw dust, the type you get from timber, the bar the saw came with was also very worn, but had a sharp (worn) chain. I get saws like that as it gives me pleasure to get them back up and running, though totally uneconomical if you add the hours taken, but hobby hours are free! I used it last week to cut some firewood to check it out along with a variety of my other saws that periodically need use - 5105, 5030, 120si and 7901 all got used, 9000 unfortunately didn't get a run, nothing bigger than 28"

And since it's the last petrol chainsaw designed in the Hamburg factury, as a DOLMAR nerd I'd better have one.

Would this 111 be a 2004 model? Made in 09-09-2004? Or am I reading this wrong? There is a 5 missing on the end of the serial number.

What year did Dolmar switch from the metal tag to the sticker on the recoil housing? Or is it the product of being a 111i vs a 111?

To answer the first question: Yes it's a 111 and it was built in April 1999.
Don't know, when they switched from metal plates to plastic decals, may it was with the design change
to the rounded recoil housing (part no 020 112 180, as seen in the last pic) from the older design with straight horizontal
pattern (part no 020 112 170, second pic).
If so, the change occurred in mid 1996.

For the curious of you: There have been two more variants of badges attached to to starter housing of models 109 - 115.

The first one was a transpartent plastic plate screen-printed at the back side.

This type of badge was clipped into two slots within the starter lid:

In 1987 they changed the badge to become a metal plate which was glued to a modified starter cover (no longer with clip-in-slots):

Even later this type of badge then was riveted rather than glued.
