The foam disc that goes on the metering side of the carb. I have heard that guys are not installing them or tearing them off. Or cutting a notch in them. Not sure why but I would like to know why, and whether or not to install it.

Got the carb mounted. Need some screws that hold the intake manifold to the carb bottom. Also need the contact Spring that goes under the screw that holds the intake manifold. So that is it for today. Hopefully we will be up and running this week.

I did get a couple of special tools the other day. So I can get on the PS 9000 I got a couple of months ago. Should be a fun build. Has bad main bearings so it need to be split. Going to run the Ignition and carb off a 9010. Needs a lot of rubber bits.

Run the new style foam and a C1Q-DM13B carb and you'll have a nice runner.

That spec carb works really well.

Yep, that's what I got. Dolkita wants like $100.00+ for it, you can find it for $40.00 shipped if you shop around. I got mine from a place called Mitty Supply.

Finally got my 5100 put together. I had the wrong top cover. Got a good used one. So all that is left is to set the tune and run it.View attachment 112654
Looking great, I'm kinda envious. :)

Is she really an "S" model?
I know You put her together out of two parts saws.
If I am not mistaking the "S" models sport a higher limited coil than the non "S" ones.
The "S" designation should stand for "Speed".

All I have ever seen are PS-4600S saws, didn't realize that there are PS-5100S ones as well. o_O

Let us know what You think of her once You get a chance to try her out!

From what Nate tells me the one I have has the white unlimited Ignition Module.
I should have time to tune it later today. Have a job to do this week if the weather holds out and will dry up a little that should be real fun to try it out on. About 20 to 30 white pines to take down. 20 couple inches for the bigger ones and the rest 10 to 14". Chip the brush. Should be a good bit of limbing and bucking.

That sounds like a lot of fun, if I were any closer I'd swing by and have some fun bucking and limbing - I love bucking.
I'd leave the dropping to You though, I don't like felling unless the tree is free to fall in whichever direction.

I hope You have the higher/unlimited coil, should make a great limbing saw. :)

Got it to my 9000 a good ways. Found the pto bearing has spun in the case and the flywheel side of the crank was spinning in the bearing. Not what I wanted to see as I want to use this saw daily for falling timber. Thinking of using bearing and sleeve retainer on the bearing. Unless you all know of something better. Definitely needs a piston it has a good bit of wear on both sides. 1st is exhaust,2nd is intake

Poop on the spun bearings. :(

I hope it is fixable.

Get a good quality AM piston maybe?

I want to keep it all oem. I know the pistons threw Makita are pretty salty may just do a piston and cylinder and keep my old cylinder as a spare. The flywheel side should be as simple as just replacing the bearing. The pto has me more concerned.

For me it'd be about 100€ piston kit, 230€ P&C kit.

Interestingly bearings are identical both sides (6203 C3), 11€ a piece.

I have to admit, I am looking at a PS-9010 parts list though!

If Your cylinder is undamaged, maybe go OEM piston kit after all.
