Got the coil from Nate today (thanks again for all the help and getting my issues sorted out).

Saw is together and runs, but acceleration seems a bit sluggish. Is that normal for the PS5105? I hope to give it a try in some wood tomorrow.

Mark

This is the same saw as yours for comparison.

I asked on Another Site but have not had a response so far. I am looking for an IPL for a 5105 and some advice. Looks like I will need to split the case and replace the bearings (might as well replace the seals while I'm at it), is the case gasket needed or would a good sealer like Dirko HT or Threebond be sufficient.

Does anyone have experience removing the base gasket on the 5105? Seems like the OEM gasket is quite thick.

TIA

Mark

Use a new case gasket. If you delete the base gasket, you will need to remove the squish band and or mod the piston top. I modded the piton top by beveling it with emery cloth. Had to check squish in several positions to make sure I got it even all around - .018" - .020". Hope this helps!

Thanks 166, mine is not so far behind that one on acceleration.

I set it up with .325 chain and an 8 tooth sprocket, I may try a 7 tooth to see if that gives it a bit more grunt. I tend to push my saws pretty hard. It actually cut pretty well in some larger green soft wood without a lot of pressure.

They can be converted to use a 5105/5000 style clutch drum.

Mark, I have 3/8 set up on my 5105. 16'' bar/chain and it seems to like it. It will cut faster with the 3/8 than .325 in my tests, anyway.
I agree, I have the 20" 3/8 and tried the new lightweight Oregon bar and chain20" .325, not effective at all, and I was pulling for it! Both 7 on the rim, on completely stock LN saw.
Disclaimer: I didn't try other brands of chain(blades )
