Anybody know where I can get an air filter cover and engine cowl NOS in the gray color for the 64/73/79 series. I had a set and tried to dye them, let’s say I didn’t achieve the desired results the first time. Thanks. Not on much lately so I may not respond quickly.

If you don’t mind get me a price, after this first fiasco I should just quit before I waste more money.
What color are You trying to dye them anyways?
Are You going to try dyeing the new set too?
Just curious.

I was trying to match the smurf color, don’t ask what it came out. Found a guy local that does hydro dip so I’m going to see him a Thursday. Going to go with something different, not sure what yet. Won’t need new covers but thanks for asking.

That would do it. Those atv/utv tires are not cheap. Cheaper than new camoplast tracks though... so you got that going for ya.

Not to hijack this excellent thread... but... can you fellas help remind me of all the good reasons for buying a dolkita 6100 instead of a husky 555...? in addition to the blatantly obvious argument “cause it’s a dolmar, duh!” haha!

Climb the evolutionary ladder a bit more and buy a 6421, you won’t regret it.

Also, the Dolmar PS-6100 fits well in my signature!
That alone has to be worth a consideration. ;)

From what I gathered the only cons to the 6100 is that she utilizes the small Husqvarna mount.
Some seem to dislike that about the unit because their 36" large Stihl mount bars with adapters don't fit. :rolleyes:
I don't care about the mount, all my saws have each one dedicated primary bar.

I’ve run the 6100, 562xp, and 555 all back to back. I will say that if you are 1/4ing logs by noodling them... you’ll want the 6100. The clutch covers on both the 555 and 562 jam rather quickly when noodling. The 6100 clears the noodles better. Also a conversion to the 5600 clutch cover set up gives you dual spikes which I like since I use the 6100 for inverted felling cuts sometimes. Most people want the outer feeling spike for appearance, but they are actually practical if you know what your doing.

What’s the weight gain from 6100 up to a 6421 though? I got alot of walking to do. Enough i’m almost thinking a Miller modded 5105.
Dolmar PS-5105:
50cc (45mm piston, 31,4mm stroke)

Dual spikes are the cats meow!

I don' t understand how Dolmar/Makita even dared to market a saw like the PS-6100 without the option for a dual spike upgrade.

18in 325 is on the small side for a 6100. A 5105 would run that with authority and I know a dealer that still has a few heated handles saws in stock... just saying...

I keep hearing that from people , but I’m on the 40cc-60cc-something large cc plan. And the power losses up at 7,000ft elevation are significant... which has me thinking there is no replacement for displacement... and I have a new Steel 261 that was gonna fill the 40-60 hole and I’m not impressed with cutting speed, and it’s broke in. I prefer my muff modded 421. Basically trying to reduce power losses with less chain, narrower kerf chain, and a smaller “bite” short bar, and more saw than generally appropriate. Is this a good approach or should i be bumping up to a faster cutting 3/8 chain?
