Its an option to go without easy start: The model designation is PS-5105 CX
I knew they made a non easy start option but it wasn't a model that was available when I bought mine, at least not at the price I got mine for....and mine is a 5105H(heated grips). I do like the thinner overall profile of the CX.

I wonder how the non easy start would work with my @Miller Mod Saws 5105.
Ron send me one to try out.:D:D

As far as Im concerned I like the overall concept of "easy start" a lot on all the Dolmar saws that have it . It works fine , is simple and as far as I have found, decently robust in construction. If for no other reason I like it for the coils the system uses.

My 6100 has easy start, and if I pull the starter too fast it will almost lock up. Just a smooth, deliberate pull will get the job done. Wonder how it would pull over with a regular starter. I'm thinking it has quite a bit of compression to deal with.

Dolmar 6100 with @Wilhelm modded clutch cover. Wilhelm and I were talking about how irritating it is that the 6100 doesn’t have dual spikes.
A couple of days later he messaged me with an idea he had for using the clutch cover and spikes from a Dolmar PS-550/Makita EA5600.
Everything lines up perfectly and quite honestly I think the saw looks really good this way.
You also get captive bar nuts this way.
I installed a Stihl style roller catch as I prefer those over the stock metal ones.

I was just lucky to get a hold of a Dolmar labeled cover.

The inner spike is the stock PS550 / EA5600 spike, and the outer is the corresponding outer stock spike for that cover. The inner 550 / 5600 spike is the same as the 6100 Euro spike.

Good question on the width. I’ll be right back with a couple of pics.

You might try reversing the roller chain catch. It's easier to get the clutch cover on with a stationary pin. I know stihl mounts them like you have it, but the other way is more better.

Sweet looking setup

Wayne, here’s a couple of pics of the two different covers installed. You are right, it is a touch wider. We all know what that means!! More better for noodles!! Lol

Thanks Kevin. I’ll give reversing the catch a shot. It does go on quite easily now, though. The cover hits the bar studs way before and makes it just slide right in.

What do You guys think about someone owning a PS-550 now? ;)
Without my PS-550 next to my PS-6100 I would have never thought of it and I was actually initially just pissed that the 6100 doesn't feature captive nuts.
A brainfart led to something good.

I don't have an outer PS-550 spike yet and Sondre @SOS Ridgerider had the opportunity to get both a PS-550 clutch cover and outer spike.
He didn't waste any time, got the parts, and tested the mod.
Sondre gets all the credit for prototype testing. :)

Cheers :beer-toast1:
