I'm missing the piston and cylinder and the intake and carburetor. Any idea was saw this is based on? I see "52.." on the lable under homemade bracket above...

I'd like to make it complete for the museum display, but I'm not dead set on making it run.

According to my literature, all the countervibe based cutoff saws were 5200/5400/8500 based. The smaller CC models were based on the old 245/306 chassis.

That one is definitely 5200 series. Wish I had some spare parts to bring up to you.

You can pretty much match up the engine parts with your 5400. The carb is likely the same HS-176

Would anyone have a junk piston and cylinder I could use to put the Target saw together? I just want to make it look complete, not interested in making it a runner at this point. I did not have any suitable cylinders in my tote of Poulan parts, but did find a muffler that looks to have come off a Target blue one as well.

They all have compression. I've done nothing with them though. Any interest, and I'm happy to pop mufflers, take pictures, and attempt to get started.

I finally brought my 3400CV back to life this weekend.
Bought her about a year ago as defective and non-runner, it took me almost a year
to come to results with her but finally we're straight back now. Not that I have been
busy with her throughout an entire year, the 3400 simply wasn't too high on my priority list
to do some real work on her other than ordering a new diaphragm & gasket set for
her Walbro HDB carb
To get her into running state again was a little challenge of its own but then what
would you expect from a saw sold as defective non-runner. Problem was the metering
lever inside the carb's metering chamber.
First the saw starved since the needle valve wouldn't allow any fuel into the metering chamber,
so I bent the lever up a bit to approx. match the carb's outer edge as stated in service manual.
That setting caused the motor to flood immediately, so the correct setting has to be somewhere
in between which I found consequently.

Here she is next to her grand-aunty

Got a 306a I can sell if I can get it sorted out.
Got and rebuilt it in ‘12. Installed new seals at same time. Used it a few times then set it on the shelf since then. Rebuilt carb again in ‘19.
Got offer for saw recently and again wouldn’t start so again rebuilt the carb, a tillotson HS59a, with all new parts. Now it starts and runs like a scalded dog until I try to let it idle. Then it dies. Acts like it slowly runs out of fuel
Set H to 1-1/4 and L to 1; set throttle idle to
~1 turn after contacting throttle lever.
Saw compression is 120+
Noticed some fuel, very little like with reed valve spit back, in carb box..
What am I missing?
TIA, jerry
