Do you find a lot yours local? The one I just picked up came out of Illinois? I'm just curious about dealer networks in the early 80's?
The poulan chainsaw was extremely popular in the South Eastern US .
The put out alot of Bow saws down here.

Well, I managed to find enough time to get the PP295 put back together. Carb needed a cleaning (sawdust in the screen), a kit for stiff diaphragms, new AF and new fuel lines. What a pain these are to reassemble! (I am mostly used to Echo/Sthil stuff) Anyway, it was popping off with a squirt of mix down the carb, and ended up running after the H/L screws were turned out maybe 3.5 turns each. Probably the most out I have ever had on a carb. Not sure if that's just the nature of this saw, or if it means I am trying to chase a leak I don't know about.

Managed to get it to idle down and stay running for several minutes. Need to have some more time to try and tune it a little in some wood and see how it does. I will say it seems like it oils like no tomorrow. There was a mess all over everything after I turned it off. Also not sure if its because I didn't cut any wood, so all the oil just kinda pooled and ran around the bar, or if Im actually leaking a lot of it out at the oiler port.

Appreciate the help so far, and any other tips for getting this one dialed in. I have some old beams I am planning to use this bar/chain on, and then planning to put an adjuster on it and get an 18" or 16" setup for it, keep it on hand as my backup/loaner saw.
Well, I spoke too soon.

Im pretty sure I have an air leak. It wouldn't idle down for me yesterday while trying to just make a couple cuts, and then today was trying to drop a few big sumac and it was all over. Kept wanting the L needle out more and more to keep it idling. Which is probably why it got put on the shelf in the first place.

Haven't worked on a clamshell before, and from the IPL it looks like there are two different options for seals. I'll have to tear it all down and then see what I'm dealing with.

Does anyone have a line on the FWD isolators for a 5400? Or a suitable replacement? Or is a guy stuck buying them for $30 a piece?

No direct replacement but a post back in 2018 on AS which I can't find by a guy that adapted these mounts.

You would have to adapt the mounting screw or theads in the saw in some way.

Husqvarna 501 27 63-0, 501 55 26-02, 501 26 97-04

I haven't tried these but maybe they would work unless you can find some OEM ones.

Hi folks. I don’t post as often here as in the past but still read regularly.

The frequency of my vintage saw procurement has tapered significantly these past few years. A good friend of mine went to some length to pick this one up for me, though. Fellow was selling for his dad and my buddy convinced him it would go to a good home. It took a lot of back and forth. I gave my friend the first saw I ever did a total OEM rebuild on - J’red 625 II - as a thanks. The 625 fired right up after sitting for 12 years or so.

This one also fired right up after sitting dry for 40+ years. Spun a new loop from my box of old Windsor semi. Came from the original dealer with the carb dialled in to rip. Couldn’t help it, but I twiddled the knobs back a tad. Can’t say it has seen more than a couple of tanks, as the PO had rocked the original chain hard. Blown cutters left and right and then it sat. Pulled the covers, hit it with some water and wiped it down. As is. Runs like it looks.

I’ve never bought a new saw, but this is pretty darn close.

Date slugs are 1983.

Were the orange ones a Canadian thing, or is there another explanation?

Definitely Canadian only. THose were assembled in Canada at the Skil Plant in Toronto.

A lot of those saws were repaints in the factory.
Thanks, Tim. Interesting that my other 4000 stamped ‘83 as well is the classic green. Same Skil factory. Only difference, aside from the colour is this orange one came with a rim drive. Granted, it may have been a dealer swap. Two different colour schemes available in Canada at the time (rebrands aside)? Different markets or audiences? All my later (first year) 3000’s are orange and I have never seen a green one out here. Nor, do I know if the green ones were (even/ever) simultaneously available. Nonetheless, I’ve always taken a shine to the black and orange ( FM’s et al., come to mind). Looking forward to throwing this new one into a log or many.

Totally possible. I don't believe Skil made any of the parts but did import them from Poulan in the US. Maybe they were shipped green plastic clutch covers and had to use them up.

I know they dumped a ton of 3700 rear vented AF covers to Canada. Lots of the 3400 rebrands came with them.

Always easy to tell which ones were painted and assembled in Toronto. The paint falls of when you look at it too hard.

I think the only US built saws in that line that I have are two red Craftsman 3.7's (3700) that have great paint.

I have one of the orange 4000's which is nowhere as nice as yours.

Hey Poulan people. Looking for a couple of parts for a PP335 if anyone has anything. If you know of any models these parts may interchange with, let me know. Much appreciated
