You have some very nice saws there Bigmac. The 797 will pull a 50 no problem
and you will love the 101 saw. They are a blast to run.
Thanks Lee, I love them, they are impressive saws for sure, and considering there era, truly amazing!! I have run my 797 with 32” bar and it felt strong, like it needed a bigger sprocket or to be running a long bar, and I prefer the lever decomp over automatic. I think I have all the bugs worked out of my 101, I was chasing a bad condecer...would spark beautifully but only run for a second then die, after lots of parts swapping its now starting and running great, about ready to put it in wood!

Did you build your 101 with the 125 intake and reeds or did you put a sloper intake in it? Really like your posts! Keep them coming!

Thanks! Yes I used a 125 intake, nos reeds and manifold, still had to surface it to get the reeds to seat fully, I did port the manifold, I have a few ideas for preformance, I want to fill the manifold with epoxy and rework it, there is a huge dead spot the I think would ad in response and power(dirt bikes have highly developed reed cages) I think filling would really help. I would like to try a kart cage with custom manifold that still used the stock intake boot. I have done a mock up and I think it will work.(don’t want too cut up the air box) I don’t know if the reeds are a major restriction or the carb...0r both? I am assuming both, but I would like to see if there are gains in the reeds and manifold

Any time you put a 101 in a stock saw chassis you are detuning the 101.
The 101's came from the factory with a carb that has a 1-3/8 throttle bore.
A few on the saw sites have gone through the pain of making stock appearing
125's with the big carb. The stock 125 muffler doesn't help either.

This one I built over a year ago using the Tillotson HR race carb. It has a 1-3/8 bore.
It is done and is a real hoot to run. If you look in the Upstate NY gtg thread you will
see a video of it running.

Sweet saws Lee!! I NEED to build something similar! I have one more 101 saw in the build phase(stock style) all of the paint is done, just need a few little parts. I have two more kart motors that I would like to play with, I really like your 797/101 with the kart carb!

Picked up this today, it's had a hard life.
I'm not sure of the model, what do you all think. Is it a CP125??
Thanks for any help

Sp125 variant, Not a CP125. Someone must have swapped the filter cover.
Definitely a repaint and looks like the fuel tank has had some repair work.
Has the Walbro SDC fully adjustable carb which is nice. I would remove
the muffler and look at the piston before moving further. Nice saw but needs
a lot of TLC.

Cheers for the response, my thoughts exactly on being a SP.
Yes in very poor condition, good thing it was very cheap.
Fuel tank has been resealed and poorly done I might add, muffler has been damaged/rusted out in the front and repaired with a lot of weld.
Piston has some scoring along the exhaust port side.

Is it a chrome bore or steel?

Cool!! That’s a major bonus in my book, you can bore it if needed!

Now I'm not all that certain it is steel .My guess is grade 50 cast iron or nodular iron cast in the block as opposed to a sleeve .

Put my newly acquired 125 up against my 105 for comparison.
A few differences sighted20180427_140740.jpg 20180427_140805.jpg 20180427_140820.jpg 20180427_140902.jpg
Different decomp height
Different side cover and air filter cover
Different on/off and manual oiler button

Your new saw is definitely a mixed bag, and that’s ok, just not completely original! There is a lot of parts that are interchangeable between models and that’s the beauty, you can create and keep thing going with a variety of options! Original is cool...so it custom...I love both!!
