How long is your corn you plant? Where are you located? I’m genuinely curious around here I grow group 5 and 4.5 soybeans

Corn is anywhere from 112 day to 118

That corn range is pretty standard around here, some guys will put in some 105 day.

I can’t recall any beans over 4.0 but I may be mistaken.

I did a soybean and corn plot by me for my own data and we’ll have around 60 entries in our show plot. 40 corn and 20 beans. I think we’ll be doing that one tomorrow. With four guys and a 12r planter it doesn’t take long. Two vacs at the end sucking seed out, one guy putting seed in and the planter guy records what’s going where. It doesn’t take as long as one would expect.

The key you have there is organization & good planning.

One seed guy will have other obligations & have to leave & it usually ends up being 3 of us, sometimes Chase magically disappears.

His father in law is always there but he just wants to video on his phone & told him to keep me off of faceplate or whatever other sites he was posting on.

After I dropped my pants & stuck my azz out the door, he finally got the point.

The last 2 years plots have been finished up in a down pour.

Maybe I am just cantankerous & obstinate but my patience with plot planting is non-existent.

Yeah same with the corn and same with plots. I do my own research. I saw data get adjusted on a plot once also. I offered to do a plot several years ago but I was gonna put my stuff I knew and trusted in with it and they didn’t like that idea. Dekalb really impressed me this year with their offer though. Sounds like they truly believe they have something hot

Hoping that will be my new one across the board Dekalb variety. Gonna put some under water and some dry land. Got a few acres in now like 20 or so.

I’ve been a pioneer guy most all my life. They discontinued some of my absolute favorites last year so got more new stuff going in the ground than I prefer.

This was looking at about half of last years show plot. It looks awesome from the road but is a ton of work lol.

Any issues with wire worms in the corn that goes into the rye ground ?

Not that we’ve noticed yet.

It takes some time but with the right crew it isn’t bad. We tossed 18 varieties in my grain plot yesterday morning in less than an hour.

When we do customer plots we tell them there will be four people there or they will be doing it on their own. We’ve never had an issue yet. I bring the vac rig and we get after it.

I ran the combine in a big mixed plot last year that had six brands represented. When we got the data from the other five brands every single one had at least one variety that had been adjusted up from what the weigh wagon read. I always come out of the combine and write the numbers down and the one guy got all fiesty when I popped out the first time “what you don’t trust me?” he says. “Well now I don’t !”

When I called one guy on adjusting things he says “the ground is so varied here and it should have done better”. WTF dude . That’s not how it works ! You show the data as it is and call out “variable soil” or whatever else lol.

Yeah I agree. That’s why I do my own data. Well this variety didn’t get started out good it was a bit cool and damp…. Right…
