IMG_7633.jpegLiquid fertilizer on planter sat a few days after a rain. Whole tank turned to *s-word. I cleaned this filter out 4 times to get it through the planter.

So for anyone that doesn’t understand there’s a ground driven piston pump that pumps as you drive.

Several years ago I added Orifices to the back of the planter to put some back pressure on the system to make it come out each row evenly

They would plug up pretty regularly so now I have this filter and a finer smaller filter before it gets to the orifices Works well but in this case the fertilizer has gotten so gritty it wouldn’t even go out of the planter. Took basically all day to plant 35 acres. However I did get the job done correctly so no big deal but what a day.

I thought $70,000 was a bit excessive :)

I mean it’s clean but no way I’m coming anywhere close to that number. I wouldn’t mind having a 4020 one day but at the prices they’re bringing it’s just not likely gonna happen. Even 10 thousand isn’t really the ballpark I’m interested in.

I believe the ole Iowa boy might be sneaking across the river to Illinois and partaking in the legal "weed". All joking aside he is just fishing for a dipstick offer. It would be interesting to see it on the Mecum "Gone Farming" auction that they have just up the river. I am betting it would not hit $20,000. At some point this summer there will be an auction for a gentleman 25 miles east of me that has some well used Allis 440 tractors. Those will blow a 4020 out of the water. Folks laugh but I am betting I am right. Just down the hard road a non running Allis 170 NF went for $14,000.

I was never impressed with a 4020. These days they’re also not big enough to be practical

All that said I do still want one

I have an IH 856 diesel that fills that spot but they are nice machines

From about 1981 until 1990 I watched countless 4020's sell in the $4000-$5200 range. Then by 1996 or so they explode......just about when corn first hit $5. Of course hogs went to 7 cents. The tractors went nuts. I do not watch many now as they are out of my wallet range. I will go watch teh AC 440's but I bet they go online and possibly to another country.

Gross. What are you running for a mix ? We’ve been running 10-34-0 for a long time with some zinc and sulfur and have never had it get that bad.

Laid down some liquid weed death as well as a preemerge on 172 acres this afternoon. It’s the first season with Section Control and AutoPath and wow. What a game changer ! Hoping to get another 400a or so done each day the next few days and get my own corn and beans done and get into the custom work by the end of the week if the weather cooperates.

I knows it’s not the largest or newest but a guy can really cover some ground with a 90’ boom and 1,000gal tank !! 8mph equates to over 85a/hr if a guy can stay moving.

A buddy has a Hagie with a 132’ boom with JD See and Spray. It’s neat riding with and watching it only spray the weeds.

Mine is a 1,000gal 6 section 90’ boom with air suspension and Norac boom control and a John Deere rate controller with section control. Having sprayed around 600a so far with the section control I have to say I’m in love with it. $23/acre invested in the new monitor, section control and rate controller. Once I get done with my stuff and the custom work that’ll drop to around $5/acre. I like a 5yr payback on things and $1/acre over every acre for 5yrs doesn’t seem bad to me. Plus I’m picking up custom work every year so it’ll that’ll offset it even quicker.

Today
IMG_20250528_174619.jpg

Momma duck flew out of the box yesterday, raised hell calling her kids to follow.

Mowed the back yard this PM, gonna let it settle throughout tomorrow, and let the gang out on Friday under proper supervision.
I am free Friday, gonna do a BBQ - as such I will be on the back yard to keep watch.
