Lots of it in this area is being chopped into silage. Turned dry and hot just when it needed some rain the worst. Seems like the rain had been going just north and south of us until the last week or so. Most of the harvested fields have rows left in place for crop failure insurance inspection.

I didn't know that anyone made corn silage anymore. One of my first jobs growing up on a farm, was throwing down silage. My dad figured he would get me into the silo young, so I wouldn't have a fear of heights.

lots of it is still made…the majority of it goes into bunker silos these days.

That's exactly what happens around here. You still see silos, but I would guess they are no longer used.

that’s a shame the weather seems too be making or breaking farming all over the western world
this corn is grown for silage which will be harvested in October

I can’t wait for this haying season to be done. I have kicked out 546 big rounds since Saturday. Most is 3rd cutting & some is crp that they turned loose. If the weather stays as is we will likely be mowing some a 4th time…

I have no idea how many bales we have kicked out this year but it seems like more than the last 2 years for sure.

I filled my hay quota in two cuttings this year. I have no plans for a third cutting, unless it works out too well.

My best fields didn't produce as much as usual on the second cutting. Too much rain I suppose.
Had great grass in the back field. Disc mower chopped it up too fine. Lost way too much. Will sickle from now on when it is mid height. 10-15" grass should be fine, on;y yielded half of what it should have. walked the field and there is lots still there, just wont rake up. Guess it will become soil.

Kicked out another 41 today after raking about 45 acres. Some of the hay wasn’t dry enough so will hit it again tomorrow after dinner. Most I bales was 15-18%, the rest was reading 25% - wet.
