I think it's time to let SpaceCadet go.

Thoughts?
Hell no!!!
If he don’t leave on his own accord, we didn’t do our job....

What do you use to keep worms from eating your corn cobs? I don't think I have ever got to eat a full ear out of my garden.

Pesticide....

Cause all the “organic” *s-word I tried didn’t work...

I’m open to suggestions, but I want decent ears dammit....

Spray a bit of sevin on the silks when they develop. Since corn is air pollinated you don't have to worry about harming bees. Don't go too nuts with it since it will affect the taste if you drown it. Does a good job with corn ear worms. Sprayed it on broccoli one year. Don't do that. It tends to flavor it.

The previous owner here stated the top soil is 16' deep. Is this even plausible? I'm in the mountains .... btu the AG status dates way back. Could decades of cultivation achieve this?

edit: btu ....I can be a bit dyslexic.
I was serious with this question. No Spacedikin here.

Thanks Tony. Haven't had any issues with broccoli but I usually have that harvested in early may before the bugs really get going.

I've heard there are places in Iowa with topsoil 14' deep. It's not from cultivation though, it's because that area is the fertile valley in the middle of two mountain ranges. Actually, I'm the last couple centuries we've done a real good job of washing the topsoil in the breadbasket down the river. That's one huge advantage of no - till.

I'm up in elevation. I'll have to look it up for the numbers.
For now this kid's off to bed. Taking a trip out of town in the morning for a buncha free recycled 2x4x14' lumber.
Night all .....

I will dig the bottle out and let you know what I used last year. Just sprayed it on the silks.
If you can keep the moths off the silks, there’s no ear worms...
