My wife was just talking about this last night actually. She read on another forum that it's very common to encounter baby deer while doing hay.

This is the second one I have hit with the disc mower over the last few years.

I would imagine that could ruin a sickle or disc mower.

The mower just made a little racket…..like hitting some tree limbs. Didn’t hurt anything at all.

I ran over a baby deer today. I always hate it when that happens.

Little fuggers won't move. Last year I saw one hunkered down on the road, near the ditch but still on the pavement, no shoulder either. I stopped and tried to scare it off. Wouldn't budge so I got out of the car. Got closer and closer, still wouldn't budge. I was literally standing over it within 1 inch, damn thing still wouldn't move until I touched it, then it was hauling ass out of dodge. Never did see the momma.

Their most self-protective natural instinct is sometimes their demise

how many bales ?

I literally finished cutting it a half hour ago. It's real thick this year.

Last year we got 11 4x4 rolls.

So far in our small operation we have put up 41 rolls and 195 small squares. Tomorrow we will put up approximately 400 squares.

172 4x5's of the 400+ we will need assuming grass keeps growing. Going to do a bit of herd reduction this year to about 50 mamas right now, should give us little easier time. Dad wants out at 75 and that happens this year so I will take over everything.

Just turns em inside out...

Like a woodchuck..

You really gotta watch for em. I’ve had em get up and run right into the conditioning rollers of a stopped mower.

Newer balers??

Smallest I know of is the old M&W that rolled up 4x5’s..
We talking belt or soft core/fixed chamber? Seen a few of the older hesston balers that make 4x4 and don't take a ton of horsepower to run. Probably could dig up an Allis round baler somewhere that made little rounds. Uncle had one and would talk about how it would slip from time to time and change from 60lbs to 80-100 and he would have to get some help to put it up.
