Stihls aren't worth that much oem, let alone AM
:meparto:
Up in the mountains from here -- 2+ hours from here. Someone should have went full circle and gotten a MS440 crankcase :bash::bash:
I would have opted going the other way and getting an oe tank. Many guys prefer the screw caps vs the get screwed caps that dump oil/gas down your leg .
I've gotten used to the over designed flippys on the stihls, but they stihl suck and give me problems, never had that with the husky flippys. The husky flippy caps also have a spot to put a scrench into the cap under the flippy part when you flip it up if your wearing gloves or it's stuck on tight :campeon:, which doesn't happen on the stihls since they stop when locked(or unlocked sometimes ), but I have more problems with the stihl orings leaking/not lasting as long.

The problem is that not even Stihl has an 044 replacement tank with screw caps. They only offer the 440 with the flippy caps.

I hear you.
If you want to maximize the value then a oh44 tank is a great way to do it, but as your saying the outlay for the tank once sourced could reduce all the profit from that venture, which I'm sure is why guys do it this way. That being the case I'd get a set of the Chinese ones Dave sells that make the new style into the old school screw in style.
Personally I don't like the old school screw caps on a Stihl or a husky i think the huskys are better, but I like the new husky flippy caps the best, I wish Stihl did theirs in a similar fashion. Be cool if we could pick the options we like on our saws and order them that way, that may be a little cost prohibitive though lol.

Says the guy with more Stihls than a Stihl fan boy!
Anything to get the fan boys undies in a bunch. Depending on the fan boys I can become a fan of any brand, even if I don't like them :zpong:. I like to talk trash about a brand and meanwhile post pictures of my saws that are the same brand, the fan boys never even see what I'm doing as they are still going of on about how I've talked bad about the only brand of saw that can even cut wood:cursing2::crybaby2:.
Many have never even ran the saws they are so opinionated about:eaea:.

I really enjoy trying them all. There are so many factors that play into what makes a saw a good saw for an individual and their personal needs/wants that lots of advice helps, but much if the times what is heard is a bunch of fan boys speak, it gets old real quick. I've never been one to go with the in crowd and some things don't change, but at the same time I do want to be open to learning what I can from everyone so I do try to listen even if they are a fan boy :).
Unfortunately I can't trash talk those pioneers as I don't have any, yet :D.

Once the barn gets built I'm sure few older saws will find there way here, as it is I've already told people I don't want a few older saws, timing isn't right and it looks like American Pickers is out front as we speak:tiburon:.

The reality is thats more of a firewood hoarders paradise :aplastao:. The driveway and side yard are more reserved for Honda cars, a couple hand foreman carcasses, bunch of various trailers, some tractor implements, more firewood and the log pile.
There is another 10 cords of rounds to the left of the pole barn pad which is behind my sweet 98 odyssey :campeon:.

I try to keep everything hidden from view in the basement. It's getting pretty full, this is a part, mainly huskys .
