Nice ,pretty minty. Even got the translucent tank.
Someone on ebay lately was selling 10 or more NOS 064 top covers with badges for $60.
I totally forgot about that until now Kyle, hopefully their still available.

Was there ever a metal badge 064 with translucent tank? Thought all the West Germany saws were solid tanks.
Thanks for the heads up! I’m sure they are long gone

Care to post a picture of that saw? I would like to see the muffler.

Here's mine. I removed the carb cover plastic to show how much more sturdy it seems than the 066 or 660. I have watched loggers snap the rather flimsy 660 air filter holder several times.

No 064 that I know of but my '92 066 "Made in Germany" has a translucent tank, metal top cover badge and plastic rewind housing badge.
The first plastic top cover badges on 064 and 066 were introduced in 1997 after serial# 133459523.
Yes the West German 064s from the 1980's into 1990 had solid tanks and all metal badges.

Mine has a translucent tank and metal badge. Who knows it’s real history though. Could be a replacement tank. It has a mahle cylinder as well I believe.

Here’s the carburetor on my 064. Can anyone say if it belongs there or if it’s a replacement?

I wonder if it restricts flow compared to a 660? I'm betting yes. It's much easier to get more area out of a 660 right there at the choke point imo.
Stronger, sure.

I’ve heard through the grapevine the earlier intake boot setup on 064 restricts the saw more than the later 064/066 setup (larger diameter supposedly). My 064 has the later boot and the limited coil swapped for a unlimited off a 066.

When the 064 was introduced they came with WJ 6 carburetor. There were some revisions on the WJ 6 carb (screen inside) and the designation changed to WJ 6A and then WJ 6B. The next carb WJ 10 A was used when the new digital ignition came with electronic speed governor. Also a Bing 49 A carburetor was used in CDN/USA.

There are other variations and changes depending on the exact version of the 064 and 066 with the carburetors. Too much to search and write everything here now.

I still have the fuel tank that came on mine. Dunno if it’s original to the saw. It was a solid tank. The seam where the two halves were mated failed and began to leak. It has a translucent tank now

That was exactly what I needed to know. Thanks for the post. That pretty much confirms I have the original carburetor.

Block off the vent, fuel cap and pull vacuum while dabbing some clear devcon to the seam. Good as new.

Both of my 064’s have the old filter style and the fleece filters I’ve got aren’t in great shape. I looked for hd upgrade kits without much luck. I ended up with this setup, not for performance sake, just the best option I could find at the time.

Couldn't you adapt a MaxFlo setup to these 064s?
Yes I believe so if you already have the HD filter base. If I was logging everyday with mine I would have bought one already for sure. But I’m using it occasionally to preserve it and want to keep it somewhat original looking without a bulky maxflo cover.

I’m not planning on stopping at just one 064. I’d like to get another or a older 066 to collect in the future. I think these saws are starting to get rare to find in good condition.

I don’t know, but I’d need the hd base for sure.

If I was using this saw on a daily basis I would have also bought whatever would have made it functional and not worried about original equipment. At least the cleanest example I’ve got I wanted to be able to use it as is without worrying about filters and the velocity stack setup seemed to me the easiest way to accomplish that. Pretty easy to bolt on and go.
