A lot of years in the woods! Thanks for the information, that’s awesome.

My old man was falling for Columbia Helicopters in Southeast Alaska in the late 80s up until ‘07 or so.

Here’s a couple pics to keep on track... 066 Flat Top.

That's awesome Kyle, great pics. That would be a once in a lifetime chance for very few loggers to work in that big timber.
I had my chance in the summer of 1988. I was competing at a loggers sports competition at Sayward, B.C on Vancouver Island north of Campbell River, B.C.
A manager from the biggest B.C. forestry company at the time MacMillan Bloedel came down from the audience and offered me a faller apprentice job.
Unfortunately I declined and stuck it out in Manitoba. Biggest decision I probably ever made.

Here's a friend of mine falling a 15 foot red cedar in the Sayward,B.C. area in the early 1980's. He was running a Jonsereds 920.

Here's a better picture of the 15 foot cedar with info on the back.
John owned a motel and campground in Sayward,B.C. and gave out this picture as a postcard to his customers.

This 066 was given to me by a friend who used it to fall timber in Alaska. Only thing wrong with it was bearings. I sent it to @rattler and he did bearings, seals, rings and a gasket delete. I'm a Husqvarna guy but I really like this saw. My friend Matt is running it in the video.

This is my baby she only comes out when someone "f" up love this 064 is it ported yep muffler mods yep base gasket delete yep will it hang with a modded 066 apsalootly. In my opinion the 064 was and still is one of the best Saw's Stihl ever produced very versatile in it's class but that's just my opinion.IMG_20190605_153607.jpg

Nothing. Would like the same style without all the surface rust. Not a big deal.
Use wire wheel and rustoleum hi temp grill paint. Heat the muffler with torch a little so paint sticks to it and dries quick. Better than new, works good for me.

I’d like to think it’s the saw that made stihl what it is today. Look at all there other saws that came out after. There all loosely based on the 064 design.

That would be the old 041.
I think you mean the Stihl 042.
In 1976 both the Stihl 042 and Husqvarna 162 set the standard what we have today.

On the subject of the 1986 064 design the 024/034 set that standard a few years earlier.

Yep - I believe the 024 was first - it was tested in Europe extensively before being released in North America. The story we
got was that the "XXX4" model family group was the new generation of Stihls at the time and was part of an initiative led
by Hans-Peter Stihl to modernize the chainsaw and brush cutter line-up.
