The three I have all day something different.
On the recoil one says 38cc one says 40cc and one says 2.0cu.in
The emission labels says 42cc on the 38 and the 40cc.
No emission label on the 2.0....
None of them are stratos.

I have had two and i threw both of them in the garbage... one i bought used and cleaned it up, ran ok. Other one i bought brand new ported it lol and it ran a bit better. In the end she started stalling out when hot so instead of trying to find the air leak i literally threw it in the dumpster.
I will say as much as i like working on saws, the wild thing or aka 3314 is a pyle and I have zero desire to tear into them lol.
Have fun fellers :)
Would be cool to see one actually ripping

I have done some mild port work to mine and assembled it to see how it reacted. I added way more intake duration than I wanted....and when it was new the intake duration was actually higher than what I run in almost everything I have.

There was something wrong with the skirt of the piston that caused it to get caught on the floor of the intake port that I had to grind off.

It does have a small issue. I haven't figured out what is causing it yet, but it acts like it has an air leak. Idles great, turn it on its side and it idles poorly. I plan on tearing it back down before it's all over with. Current build has new parts: bearings, seals, cylinder, piston, carb kit.

Update:
Oddly enough the problem was a leaking high speed jet.

I call these the cock roach of chainsaws. They are everywhere and no matter how many you throw away there are more of them. Hate to see them come in the shop.
Lmao that is funny :)
Come into the shop in the morning, turn on the light, and unlike roaches they dont scatter but have red tags on your bench, and theres alot.

lol i can just imagine you repeating yourself over and over to the owners on the phone, one by one “no sir, its just not worth it”.

So how short have you made those conversations now? Do you just say?
“Sir for the price of a standard repair i can sell you a chainsaw thats 100 times better”

I get a lot of folks bringing the darn things in and say they got it a garage sale for $5. I tell them without even touching it that it will at the very least it will need fuel lines and a carb rebuild. I charge $40/hr. So minimum an hour and a half labor and a $10 carb kit so let's start at $70. I tell them a MS171 is just under $200. You would not believe how many people actually tell me to go ahead and look at it. I pull the rope and pray for no compression.
