In the late 1800's there were thousands of wooden chutes around the province and dozens in the county of Haliburton, but they’re all gone now.

There’s been a log chute on this site since 1861 and this chute is now the only one of its kind in Ontario.

This historic site is a testament to the tenacity and perseverance of the tens of thousands of men who made their living in the logging industry, and whose courage helped forged the communities of rural Ontario.

I remember seeing one of those putting the antennae on top of the CN tower in Toronto. You could hear it all over the city.

There was a great vid of a rigger hanging on the top 1800 ft up guiding the antennae into place while the Sikorsky dropped it down.
Can't find the vid.

I have a soft spot for the Sky-Cranes. I became an aviation manager early in my career (I got my certification when I was 20) and managed many Sky-Cranes on the big fires in North America.

I managed two on a big fire near LaGrande, Oregon in 1994. Mine were all bucket ships though. This one is a belly-tank machine:

My dad said they were up by Wawa in the mid 50's and 2 guys decided to run one of those in a canoe, they watched the authorities cart the bodies away. Darwin won.
