The Cut Report - After the Bench

Been some time since I reported last, two things, nothing too new has come up and been doing mostly repairs. However, seeing that the Stihl MS 400 C is about the latest thing going I figured I would show it. Seeing that I copied my previous work and things are working out well I'd say I have a fairy good handle on this model. Only thing different is this one has a bark box previously installed, which was retained and used in the build. Pulls darn good for a high 60cc saw and the cut speed is easy to maintain as the power curve seems in line with it. Once ported it is pretty close to a 462 and should best a 562 I would think. Definitely should be on any short list of serious firewood saws to be had for sure.
I did two down and one up cut for @bradb123 without trying for fast changeups.
As always, raw footage of first cuts after being ported, cut out and all. Lol

Steve amazing quality and build on the 372OE.

Could not be happier, only 7 tanks in, she is kicking back stronger on the starts.

Carb perfectly tuned, I belive we are withing 200 feet elevation.

One pull restarts, and that legendary treemonkey double barrel exhaust, what a beauty!

Taking a break from square cutting 72dl chain, she pulls that like it's a warm up.

Thank you for steering this project into anothet realm to make it super exciting to cut with.

Nothing new again, just a couple of models that have been a while now since I've done one last.
First up a 395xp that I have nicknamed "The Punisher" as it was horribly rebuilt by someone with more good intentions than experience. Carburetor repaired, new coil and some other smalls were installed to no avail in starting and running. The cylinder had to be replaced and the whole bottom end rebuilt properly as it would not build compression to fire and was excessive drag on the lower end. Cheap bearings with some kind of expanding plasticizer turned out to be the culprit. Warped cylinder that looked okay, would not make compression when pulled to start it, hence the now top end. With every step and turn of repairing one thing two more would raise their heads to punish my efforts, which is why I gave it that name. Starting over from scratch and getting things right as I went along took all the voodoo out of the saw and it finally started to act right.

Next up is an MS 661 which was a pretty much standard affair, other than it came with a bark box on it, I ended up putting a pipe in the old cover and using it, so there's some options running this saw which is why I named it Megatron.

A few vids for y'all to catch up on here. Nothing really new to me and results were typical/as expected.

The MS201C with a full Stump Shot Super non-ported job to it runs well and makes for an excellent choice for a dedicated limb/topping saw.

The MS261C wakes up well with a Stump Shot Special fully woods ported job put to it. Even with .325" Semi Chisel chain it ate pine like it couldn't get anymore. Should be great anywhere a smaller 50cc saw is desired from firewood processing to tree removal and logging operations.

A bearing just starting to spin took this '17 model 390xp to the shop for a full rebuild and a full port job while it was on the bench fully disassembled. Along with bearings the piston was scuffed up enough to make the saw loose compression so as not to start. A new OEM piston will get it back to snuff with the still, like new cylinder it had.
I believe with a sharp chain, properly tensioned, these saws will do just fine on the big jobs with longer bars.

Have you seen the new 201 muffler from WCS? I bought a few to play with and it really wakes up the saw. Being similar to the 200t muffler it can be port-matched to an opened up cylinder.

Here's a goodie for the cut report that I really like how it cuts and pulls an NOS 562XP OE. No dog dish piston here and plenty of vim and vigor to make your wood cutting chores minimal and a pleasure to do. Muffler modded with a pipette added well inside the can to keep the noise to a minimum to the operator to keep their ears happy and healthy. One heck of a saw...

Here's a dandy that you don't see come along often, a beautifully restored Stihl 064. @jagreer1002 had @Glock37 powder coat the case halves and the starter housing and of course bringing it back into new like condition like Mike always does. Otherwise, the crankshaft, cylinder and brake handle were about all that wasn't replaced with all new, all OEM parts. So, it was really like getting a new saw to port. With a bit of cleanup on the cylinder the new Stihl piston was fitting nicely and ready to be worked on. And work I meticulously did to make it run well, which I believe turned out fine for its size and will be a dandy of a firewood saw I tell ya.

She sure is purdy...
